Robot Jox is a guilty pleasure. I enjoyed it as a child and I rewatched a couple of years ago and enjoyed it again as an adult. I've never even seen it in its OAR before. Probably not for everyone, but I'm always happy for these forays into sci-fi and its various subgenres.

I'm a big sci-fi collector but I've never even heard of it. Guess I have some googling to do.

I apparently watched Robot Jox during a sleepover at a childhood pal's house (Spoiler: it was Cameron Schumacher!) in the early '90s but can't remember a damn thing about it. Looks like the sort of guilty pleasure I'd gravitate toward though.

Also, I find it weird that MGM would let Scream release Mad Max but not Carrie.
It would keep them from rereleasing it every fall with a new cover...

I would buy all the ones bolded if Scream could aquire them. Image currently owns the rights to Dead Heat, Re-animator, and No Retreat No Surrender as well. Also movies that could use the Shout/Scream treatment.

Image/Lakeshore also has Children of the Corn, The Stuff, The Hills Have Eyes, The Vineyard, Hellgate, Heathers, Sister Sister, Slugs, The Initiation, Mountaintop Motel Massacre, Dead End Drive-In, Flowers in the Attic, etc...

Image has released several of their Lakeshore horror titles on blu-ray already, but there are so many more that have yet to see the light of day in HD or need better releases (like The Hills Have Eyes and Vamp, although the Region-Free Arrow Video release of Vamp is amazing and worth every cent.)

I agree. Lets all do this and hope we get these classics out. Even if they must pair some up as Double Features, like The Initiation / Mountaintop Motel Massacre or House / House II. The fans would eat their releases up!!

Even doubles of the Clooney movies and Elvira/Transylvania would be nice.

Have any of the things announced this month been announced to be collectors editions, or are these essentially all just cheap barebones double features ala the Midnite Movies dvds that they're mostly re-releases of? I'd hate to see Scream Factory turn into another shovelware disc label like Echo Bridge or Mill Creek that just crams a few mismatched low-bitrate movies onto a disc haphazardly and calls it a day. I'm glad to have the movies, but this seems like a worrying trend if they're just putting big studio transfers straight on discs and releasing them without producing any extras or anything for them.

EDIT: Robot Jox is a movie I used to see trailers for at the beginning of VHS tapes when I was a little kid all the time, but never got around to seeing it. I always was curious about it. I don't think it's particularly good but it seems like something that's probably a lot of fun, especially if Stuart Gordon made it.

I saw a Tony Curtis Horror film over the weekend called "The Manitou" (1978) and it was a lot of fun, I think SF should do a BluRay release of it.

Class of 1984 is the only CE. I can assure that most will not be bare-bones. Stuart Gordon, Charles Band, Jeff Burr, etc. will likely be involved.

I believe the Carrie sequel/remake were released bare-bones in the US. But I think the UK release of at least The Rage: Carrie 2 had extras. I hope they can port those over.

I'm also a little weary since they mentioned not being sure about extras.

Someone needs to release The Manitou, that's one of the most 'wtf' crazy movies ever.

Agreed! Does Anchor Bay still have the rights? If so, they need to release it - or sell/sub-license to someone who will!

As somebody living in MANITOBA, I agree.

"The name Manitoba is believed to be derived from the Cree, Ojibwe or Assiniboine languages. The name derives from Cree manitou-wapow or Ojibwa manidoobaa, both meaning "straits of Manitou, the Great Spirit"...

With Criterion releasing MY WINNIPEG, this would add nicely to my collection.

Does anyone know if the 1984 slasher The Initiation still belongs to Image?

Also - does anyone know who holds the rights to 1982's Girls Nite Out?

Would love to eventually see both of these on blu ray... more specifically, as Scream releases.

If they do get the rights I hope they find the original stereo mix - I was with Anchor Bay as a consultant at the time, and they couldn't find them.
BTW - the director of THE MANITOU is the same for GRIZZLY... William Girdler

I think Image still has it.. I asked arrow about it and there is no HD master for the Initiation... Girls Night Out it could be Media Blasters, Anime Works or some studio called Guilty Pleasures

The Robot Jox news has me smiling like the happy geek i am.
This probably wont blow you away if you're only used to Pacific Rim (also super rad btw), but i really love the stop-motion animation and the 80s-ness of it all.

I'm not expecting the world, but the dvd was nothing to shout home about, so i'm really looking forward to seeing the new (?) transfer.
