I don't own too many titles from Scream Factory. What I do own, I've enjoyed. The picture and audio quality is pretty good (some might not be perfect), but I have nothing to complain about. I am just waiting anxiously for my CE's that I order off the March Madness sale and BestBuy sale to arrive.
Shout Factory!:
Squrim
Class of 1984
Escape from New York
Mad Max
BestBuy:
Sleepaway Camp
They Live
Pumpkinhead
I read the reviews on here for all these movies and the picture quality, audio quality, and special features don't seem too bad. Overseas there might be a better Blu-ray, but I wouldn't buy it. 1) I don't have a region free player and 2) a little more cash and 3) I just wouldn't have time to read the reviews on the set and decided whether to buy it or not. I take awhile to buy movie and books. It took me last year on the BN Criterion sale about three hours just to buy two Blu-ray's.
Before this March sale ends, I really want to pick up Sleepaway Camp 2 and Sleepaway Camp 3. From BestBuy Phantom of the Paradise, Halloween 2, From Beyond, Phantasm 2, or Terror Train. I don't know which to pick! Which do you guys recommend?

Miles away better than the dreadful overrated Jaws sequel in my opinion...
There's an overrated Jaws sequel?

Some people seem to act like Jaws 2 is a good movie, so I guess that's overrated.

So do I. It's just as scary, but funnier, gets Roddy involved much more earlier, Traci Lin>Amanda Bearse, and no offence to Chris Sarandon, but Julie Carmen certainly does it for me much more as the sexy vampire.

When are some people going to admit that their opinions are not shared by everyone else?

Yeah, it's only overrated by crazy people on message boards. I've never actually met anyone in real life who likes Jaws 2. I would NEVER call that movie overrated, though I try to avoid that term at all since it's become one of the most meaningless adjectives on the internet.

Man this thread gets petty...

That's not exactly because it's a good movie, it's because it's a recognizable name. Jaws 2 has always been a multi copy staple in every video store I ever went, and it's always in sale racks and big shops, along with the sequel multipacks. It's got name value going for it, Fright Night 2 does not quite have anywhere near that, though it still does a bit after the remake.

No need to act like that over something that, really, is quite obvious.

so are you actually saying that tons of people will buy JAWS 2 just because they've heard of it?

As you can tell, I'm a fan of Jaws 2 also. Everyone I know that grew up in the late 70s and early 80s like Jaws 2 quite a bit. It has a great returning actor/character, lots of well shot and memorable scenes, and that summer vibe. Even as old as I am now, I still like watching the teens interact. It brings me right back to that era.

I've been a huge fan of Fright Night since it came out but never liked the sequel much. I'd probably pass on it if it ever gets a release.

The first movie is much much more well known than the original Fright Night, and all it takes for someone to have seen and liked the original to be interested in a blind buy of the sequel. I don't know about America, but in Australia Jaws 2 and the 3 sequel pack seem to get rereleased every few years, and it was always rented out in videos store.

Lots of people will rent or buy it based solely on enjoying the first movie and thousands of people love the first. But like other people have said, I have never talked to someone who has liked it. I personally know lots that have seen it, most that have very little in horror movies, and only watched it because they liked the first. That goes to show the exposure a sequel can get because of it's original, regardless of quality

So yes. Like you said, maybe not tons though, but certainly a lot of people over the years have bought of rented Jaws 2 solely on recognizing it as a Jaws squeal

Don't know about the crazy people part, but Jaws 2 is dreadful and I see a lot of people praising it. The same people who call Fright Night 2 a mediocre sequel. Makes me scratch my head, but anyway...

just my final 2 cents on this subject--

JAWS 2 brings back great memories for me as a teen-ager in the summer of 1978. JAWS was and still is my favorite film of all time. This sequel has it's faults (most of them starting with the final third of the movie with the irritating teen-agers on the sailboats) but it also has quite a few effective scenes of carnage and suspense. I thought Roy Scheider was still great (even though he hated being in the film)....

FRIGHT NIGHT 2 has the incredible Roddy McDowall so I enjoyed all of the scenes with him in it, Julie Carmen was fine as the vampire. What I hated about this film was her ridiculous entourage of misfit vampires.... they were something out of a bad parody and they ruined many scenes in the film...I don't think this film is awful, but it's not good either because of these and other bad choices....

I would buy all of the sequels to Jaws even though Jaws 3 and Jaws: The Revenge aren't that great. Fright Night 2 isn't the greatest but I think its pretty fun. I think Scream has released a lot of the big titles but there are some things that would be good releases if they could get the licensing rights to release them. I'd still also like Psycho IV and possibly the Bates Motel tv movie as well still. Too bad Scream couldn't get rights from Image to release House and House II as well.

I agree with others in here about not really caring about the steelbooks that Scream Factory is talking about. Especially if they'd be using the newly commissioned artwork on them as a big thing for me with their releases now is the ability to change the cover to the original box art.

Jaws 2 was alright from what I remember. Not Jaws, of course (or Fright Night 2 for that matter) but pretty decent as far as I can recall...

I'm a big fan of From Beyond & Barbara Crampton, so I'm always up for recommending that one. If you like kinky, gooey creature features, you can't go wrong.

You can like bad movies for a ton of reasons. I "like" Jaws 3 and 4 because I saw them on cable twenty times as a kid and they're fun 80's cheese. That doesn't mean they're good movies. Same for Jaws 2 probably, but I never saw that until DVD so it doesn't have the same nostalgia cheese factor for me.

Also I wasn't comparing it to Fright Night 2, which I have actually never even seen. It's rarity has made it fall completely off my radar.
