Well put. I'm the same way. If I like something I get it. Got both of VP sets day one.

As I read this and the other Vincent Price specific thread, I read things that make me shake my head as a movie fan. Some folks saying that they were "holding out" for single releases. Or they wanted to wait and see what Arrow released. Or they figured they could catch a sale and save $6.00. Or, some how, two years was just not enough time for them to get around to buying it (seriously, you couldn't make up your mind or find fifty bucks in two years?).

When this set was announced, I pre-ordered on amazon.ca for $55.00. If I see movies I like and I can afford them, I order them. Sure, there are plenty of things I can't afford (Criterion, TT and more) but when you can buy six movies for about $9 each, do you really want to play "chase the sale" for two years hoping to score a better deal? My rule for buying movies is pretty much the same rule used by memorobilia collectors: buy what you like. If you weren't that interested in this set 2 years ago, maybe you really don't want it that badly today.

I don't want to sound like a mean, crotchety old guy but this set has been a bargain for a couple years and I'm not overflowing with sympathy for people who've just decided that they need it NOW.

Yeah, I noticed after posting when I went and researched it. Arrow put out all their Price titles individually, so there's a lot to get from them that probably look much better anyway, and have booklets. So this is now pretty much a non-issue for me, sorry to take up thread-space.

Hey Scream Factory, put out WITCHCRAFT from '64 on blu. One of my favorite British horror films from the 60s.

This is great....Although there are other reasons people hold fire.

I am waiting on individual releases. Purely cause I know I won't ever read the book, also shelf space as I have the trilogy set in the cube and I've always wanted three single amarays since I moved over to BD. Even if the set is same or smaller, I'll always see the book as unnecessary space eater. Then the original artwork, which Arrow always offer or maybe the new artwork which is often fantastic, I've missed that with the cube. If it were a set like Mad Max with three amarays in a box, yes. It's the movies and the extras I'm interested in, not a 200 page book.

Did the same with Videodrome. Had it in orders, had £5 off too, had an idea it'll sell out. I'm not an ebay hawker to want to sell it for £50. But I have the criterion dvd and I love that packaging, there would be no need to own it if I had the Arrow L.E. I could never chuck it or sell it. Again I'll wait for the amaray and wait even longer for it to go into a sale, I will probably just put the disc into the 'Beta Max' style dvd cause I love seeing that spine on my shelf.

Each to there own of course, but I know what I want and how Id like my collection to look, it's mine after all. So there are other reasons to wait around.

Th vincent price collection volume one was one of the better blind buys I've ever made. Before buying I had only seen the witchfinder general, I thougt it was great but a lot of people said none of the others movies in the collection were like it (which is true bt they are all good in their own ways). After buying tales of terror I decided I needed more vincent price so I bought the collection after many people here recommended volume one over volume two (thanks guys!) it's a shame that people like me who thought 60s horror wasn't for them won't be able to discover these movies on blu for a decent price.

I agree!
Never ceases to amaze me how some folks on this site are just absolutely shocked that different people like different things!

One doesn't have to feel sorry for those who missed out on the set, but it shouldn't be difficult to understand their frustration or disappointment. For most of us here, I imagine it's not a stretch to say we will never have all the blu rays we want. I know I won't. We have to prioritize, whether it's due to different levels of want, budgetary constraints, new sales, or some other variable. Obviously if someone says something like, "I'm the biggest Vincent Price fan ever, but I was waiting for reason x" it would elicit an eye roll from me. However, someone who did keep putting the purchase on hold for whatever reason does have a bit of my sympathy, especially since the release wasn't advertised as limited afaik. Complaining about missing out on a release advertised as "limited" is one thing, but frustration with an unexpected unavailability is reasonable imo.

Well said... I'm one of those people that put off this release for too long apparently. I'm not terribly upset about it as, to be perfectly honest, I have no idea if I'd even like the films in the set or not. I'm not much of a 1960's horror fan outside of a few select choices. Many films I've just never had the opportunity to see, others i wasn't impressed with. The Vincent Price works I've just never seen. Because of the apparent love and fanfare over the collections I had planned on picking it up after I had gotten more pressing releases that were of a high priority... I did however always keep an eye on the VP sets in the hopes that perhaps they would dip into the upper $30 price range at which point I would have snatched them up. Am I disappointed that this wasn't advertised a head of time so I could have grabbed a copy before they were gone? Absolutely... am I upset about it? No, not really. If anything this has given me reason enough to not purchase the 2nd volume now either when my intentions have always been to get both given that the 2nd volume isn't nearly as well received, and I have little interest in owning only one set.

I understand the nature of limited editions... I understand that licenses end and partnerships fade, but in this age of instant communication, we couldn't have been given a months notice that this was likely going to be discontinued? An item that was released not even two full years ago. The whole thing seems suspect to me... In any case I'm not terribly upset, just disappointed with the lack of communication.

I guess I'm just too much of a simple-minded farm boy to understand the complex thought processes that some of you guys adopt when trying to decide what to buy.

Again, if I like a movie, I buy a movie.

Sure, I can't afford everything but this was quite the bargain and I didn't need two years to find $50.00.

But, ultimately, I like Vincent Price, I like the movies and the set was cheap. I bought it. Simple stuff.

So you " have no idea if I'd even like the films in the set or not". But you kept an eye on them, "in the hopes that perhaps they would dip into the upper $30 price range ". And now, since you can't get Volume One, you are using that as a reason not to buy Volume Two.

And, "The whole thing seems suspect" to you?

This is why I was bad in high-school math. I just can't keep track of the complex algorithms, real-time statistical analysis and cost-benefit equations required to decide if I should buy movies that I may or may not like.

I'm just a buck-toothed yokel buying movies I enjoy.

I couldn't agree more. The set has been available for quite some time, and now that it's going out of print, everybody wants it.

Some of us like an awful lot of movies, or our tastes evolve over time, and we're dealing with a set budget every week. Other things take priority, you wait for a deal, you're distracted by other things, your budget gets spent every payday with Price still in your wishlist. It's really not that hard to understand if you expand your mind to consider other people being different from you.

Agreed. Taking things into consideration like a mortgage, car payments, fluctuating hydro bills, other bills, kids, ect... sometimes I don't even see the money in my account, it goes in and then it's gone lol. Also have to take a person's job into consideration, I'm a part time shift worker, sometimes I get lots of call ins sometimes I dont, just the way things are.

And I wonder how many of those titles those people like and will watch over again, and how many just collect them because it has the letter C on the spine

Well for a buck-toothed yokel, you must be doing something right. I'm sure as hell jealous of an income which allows you to buy every movie you enjoy at any given time.

Guess I should have looked to the farm fields instead of looking at triangles learning the pythagorean theorem.

So as Akijama has shown on the Kino Classics thread, Shout have indeed begun to licence titles from Sony. This could (I stress could) be great news for the Scream Factory line providing the deal extends to that, and if HD masters can be provided (and providing Twilight Time haven't already beaten Shout to the punch). I'm sure someone has compiled a more exhaustive list, but it might mean stuff like:

The Mad Magician and The Tingler (for a prospective third VP box set, as Akijama mooted)
Candyman (this would be a big collector's edition)
The New Kids
Brainscan
976-Evil
Torture Garden
The Revenge of Frankenstein
The Gorgon
The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb
Scream of Fear
The Two Faces of Dr Jekyll
Mothman Prophecies
Dead Birds

There's a risk of getting carried away of course, but you get the idea. Fingers crossed.
