Lionsgate has it, so until they lose the rights to it, its a no go

Damn. I don't know too much about licensing politics or whatnot, but couldn't they license it to SF and get a cut of the sales? It's not like they're making money with it just sitting there.

We ask that question all the time. It makes no business sense for studios like Lionsgate and WB to not license out their catalogs and make money.

For me, licensed titles are at the front of the line for buying. Titles from the big studios go on my wishlist to buy sometime later. Such titles will be widely available (and chances are cheaper) anyway if I wait.

Lionsgate wants too much money for their titles, thats the problem, they are one of the largest studios - part of the huge StudioCanal Umbrella.

Warner has a company policy not to sublicense their films unless it is a favor to the director ( Clive Barker for Nightbreed as an example). Criterion does get some kind of special treatment because its puts the letter C on a Warner title means it will sell really well. Warner has been known to do a little *charity* on occasion. Some titles they just dont care about or have no special plans for them ( example - the MST3K versions of three movies that are WB titles)

I have asked about this and these were the answers that I was given. And no, I didnt ask Joe Blow

I have some Kino titles on my wishlist, only because I havent seen them and Im waiting for them to be available for streaming or renting.. they just came out so Im not expecting them to go OOP anytime soon...but Im not going to wait years to see them I try to avoid blind buying as much as possible.

The chances are close to zero, but not because of Lionsgate. Lionsgate's license with Paramount for the original My Bloody Valentine expired a few years ago. The film is currently part of the back catalog package that was licensed by Paramount to Warner Brothers. Warner Brothers reissued the old, barebones, theatrical cut DVD in 2013 and hasn't done anything with the title since.

I lived overseas for years and have had a lot of catching up to do with a limited budget every week. Not everyone is in the perfect situation to buy whatever they want whenever they want. It sucks when stuff goes out of print, and you should understand people expressing that.

Hopefully Arrow release the rest on their own, so I can get them from them. Would rather do that anyway, didn't realize they had a set go OOP as well.

Arrow have released four of the six titles from the first Scream box - Studio Canal have the rights to Masque and Odeon already released Witchfinder.

You bet I do. Im not in a perfect situation either. Like I said, I get it but two years is plenty of time to grab something,at least to me it is. I only started my bluray collection in 2010 or 2011 and I missed out on a few blurays.

Ive currently got that problem with the Hellraiser set from Arrow, thats a tough choice, if I wait it out, it will go out of print, but do i really want to spend 100.00 on 3 movies ? This is a *how badly* do I want this set, happening right now..
In my perfect situation getting Hellraiser would be no problem but the price and it being limited is an issue. Its a great looking set. At least the Price set was 39.99 at some points during its run. If I waited two years for something I really wanted and it went OOP Id be kicking my booty all the time.
I might enjoy that though hehe

For the record, it's currently $71 shipped from Amazon, once VAT is removed.

On Amazon UK it says 50.50 "pounds" which is 79.51 but yeah I get it..I really need to think it over but if I think too long it will be gone.. Its still pretty steep for 3 movies. I bought both Price set for the same price !

Amazon removes VAT for non-UK customers, so the final price would be $71.xx with shipping. I know that still ain't cheap, but keep in mind you get a 200-page hardcover book as well. (Apologies for going off-topic here.)

I nabbed mine a couple weeks back when they had a coupon for £10 off a £50 order that was kindly posted here, so it's been available even cheaper with the coupon and VAT removal.

I think it'll sell out almost as fast as Videodrome, especially with the release date just before Halloween. And it looks like a glorious set, too. The only thing that could make it better is if Arrow had come to a deal to include the new Leviathan doc, but I'm not complaining since Barker seems to be involved with the Scarlett Box.

Back in 2013 I didn't have much interest in the price set. It wasn't until more recently, after i had seen a few Price films and started getting more into 60s horror in general, that i wanted to get the price set. And even after that i didn't really want to pay 70 dollars Canadian for it so I was waiting to see if it would drop on Amazon again. Just because a films was released 2 years ago that doesn't mean everybody is gonna want in on day one.

Amazon.ca currently says "usually ships within 1 to 2 months" so i took it off my wishlist, ordered it and now have my fingers crossed that they will somehow get more.

I have to say that it's rather funny (not "ha, ha" funny but peculiar funny) the way so many people buy movies as if they are playing the stock market. They are always looking for angles, deals and timing (and I've lost a lot of money in the stock market over the years).

As I read this and the other Vincent Price specific thread, I read things that make me shake my head as a movie fan. Some folks saying that they were "holding out" for single releases. Or they wanted to wait and see what Arrow released. Or they figured they could catch a sale and save $6.00. Or, some how, two years was just not enough time for them to get around to buying it (seriously, you couldn't make up your mind or find fifty bucks in two years?).

When this set was announced, I pre-ordered on amazon.ca for $55.00. If I see movies I like and I can afford them, I order them. Sure, there are plenty of things I can't afford (Criterion, TT and more) but when you can buy six movies for about $9 each, do you really want to play "chase the sale" for two years hoping to score a better deal? My rule for buying movies is pretty much the same rule used by memorobilia collectors: buy what you like. If you weren't that interested in this set 2 years ago, maybe you really don't want it that badly today.

I don't want to sound like a mean, crotchety old guy but this set has been a bargain for a couple years and I'm not overflowing with sympathy for people who've just decided that they need it NOW.
