Same here. I hope they really do some "correction" and not just muck it up to where it doesn't look like it did in when it first hit theaters.

I need to find a website that has all the differences between the theatrical, International and Director's Cut. Unless there are some major changes for the better in the Int Cut or D Cut I'll stick with the theatrical. That's what I grew up watching so I'm fine with it, and the S-Mart ending is far better.

The Director's Cut ending does fit the character better though. Ash has always been a bit of a f*** up or goof and just gets beaten up throughout this series. It makes sense that he would screw up and end up in an apocalyptic future. I prefer him saving the hot girl at the end and the cheesiness of him not reloading the shotgun despite shooting it way too many times though.

That part isn't exactly true...for legal reasons they can't use a lot of AOD for the TV show it's more based off of ED2. They can't even use S-Mart.

Should have the majority of the different cuts. Just look in the A section and CTRL+F Army of Darkness. Great website which I've used countless times.

How about I be realistic in my reactions and analysis and ignore haters and fanboys both? You want to talk about asinine, it's pretending this release is perfect when the theatrical cut is an ancient, crappy transfer. That matters, a lot. Am I still getting it for the other stuff? Sure. Overall is it a nice package? Probably. Is it a bummer the theatrical cut is that crappy old processed mess? Of course it is.

This is the Definitive release of the film, whether I or anyone else likes it this is going to be the best most complete release. There are way WAY to many good things going for this release for people to be so negative about it. If the only thing being presented was the theatrical cut already in existence with new features people would have good reason to complain, however this is so much more than that. Mild disappoint is fine, but the way some people go on and on about things you'd assume the disc themselves didn't play or were faulty in some way. This is going to be an amazing release that could have been better, but as is is still fantastic.
Well said!!!!!!!!

This.

It's flat out wrong to call this set "definitive" when the theatrical transfer is going to be crap apparently. If the set was definitive then all of the cuts would have really good to great transfers that would make any future releases not worth buying.

We won't know for sure until this is released but the scream factory release based solely on the specs looks like the best army of darkness has been treated on blu ray. For everything they are including on a single release that is reasonably priced there is little to complain about. Yeah its not definitive but it's not the disaster some are making it out to be.

I don't think it's typical for scream to do a 4K transfer. It really does feel like no matter what scream does people are going to hate on them.

I'm pretty damn impressed by their announcement myself. I already have one of the import "definitive" sets, and I'll still be getting this for sure.

Well everyone knows there is no such thing as definitive because they will always up the bar with new formats and picture quality. It's the best package there is right now for this title and that's good enough for me. The over the top whining is getting old; life is short enjoy what we have or don't I don't care.

There will never be another set like this for this movie. I'm sure the Arrow fanboys are chomping at the bit to jump in on this one, but the fact remains that while in theory it's possible someone else (Arrow) could potentially put together a similar set with different scans in a 3 disc set, it wouldn't have these same extras and it's debatable whether they would have as extensive of a collection. That alone makes this the definitive set if for nothing else the time being. The Halloween Complete Collection was obviously flawed, but would you say it's not the definitive collection? Just because a set isn't perfect doesn't mean it can't be definitive. I haven't seen a single person claim this set is perfect because people realize that there are always other options. However as a complete collection this release provides every version of the film that matters, extensive documentaries, collectible packaging, etc. This won't be topped, period. If/When the day comes that someone else releases a REGION A copy of the theatrical cut with a fresh 4k scan, then go ahead and get that and sell off the old disc. A new remaster of one cut won't change the fact that this release is still the most complete and thus definitive.

Yep, it seems like Scream did everything in their power to make this the best possible release there is for this film, and it looks like it will be just that!

It would have been nice to have the theatrical cut rescanned in 4K, but Scream explained that wasn't possible. If they went to the trouble of rescanning the International cut in 4K, I'm sure they would have loved to do just that. Universal is probably holding their master for a UHD release. If that ever happens, just buy that release! If it doesn't, well blame Universal, not Scream.

As for the Director's Cut, they tried to get the materials to rescan that in 4K as well, but weren't able to find them. Again, I'm sure they would have loved to give us that in a new 4K transfer. Thankfully there is already a great scan of that version available, so we lucked out.

Either way, it was all out of their control! Let it drop!

They could have just gave us the Director's Cut and the previous extras, but they didn't! They could have just gave us a copy of the Import version out there with all the cuts, they didn't. Instead we are getting everything that has been released up to this point, a new 4K scan of the International cut, and almost three hours of new extras! That's just insane! A 3 disc Blu-Ray set for $30 (Some were able to get it for $20), and people are still complaining!

This isn't Scream being lazy, they just can't make miracles happen and have to still bow down to what elements the studios give them or allow them to use.

Honestly, some people just cannot be pleased!

Bar any huge hiccups, this should easily be the release of the year! I cannot wait!

God, I'm just going to stop checking Scream threads. You can't say anything negative at all without the Scream Defense Force coming out in droves.

It sucks the theatrical cut is the old crappy master, period.

I WANNA COMPLAIN!

Why isn't there a 4th Disc of a brand new EVIL DEAD video game for PCs, on a BD50, which has Bruce Campbell back in the role of Ash?! AND why doesn't this also have a massive booklet too?! Huh, HUH?!
[Show spoiler]

No seriously, there needs to be a new EVIL DEAD video game for PC, PS4, and XBONE which utilizes the full capacity of them. Especially PC a la GTA V which is the best out of the consoles it released on. Course I've played the EVIL DEAD games for PS1, which I forgot the name of, XBOX and PC. Of which were A Fistful of Boomstick and REGENERATION. Highly recommended if you enjoy playing video games and are an EVIL DEAD fan.
Anyway I was hoping MGM would license out the 96m Director's Cut print to be able to be scanned in 4K. Agreed with others Universal is holding off a better version of the USA Theatrical Cut to be released through theirselves proper.

I agree, don't blame Scream Factory when they have contracts and rules they have to follow from the rights holders of said film. It is highly possible that Universal is keeping the new scan of the Theatrical cut for themselves or it's possible that Universal and/or Sam Raimi says that the version that Universal issued of the Theatrical Cut is what they prefer. There are a lot of reasons that Scream may not be able to do a 4K scan of them Director's and Theatrical cut, but I don't think any amount of explaining from Scream will please some people. I personally am happy and the release sounds great features wise and I am glad Scream has decided to do this great film the service it deserves

Just so we're clear my earlier post wasn't meant for only you. I agree it does suck that the new release won't have a better scan for the theatrical cut. I've never once said that this isn't disappointing news. You just happened to be the post I quoted but my comments were directed more towards the people saying the release is somehow less complete or isn't worth getting because One cut will have a less than ideal print used.

Expressing disappointment is fine, but crapping on the entire release seems excessive and is the kind of thing I was speaking out about.

I went through this thread and the dedicated AoD thread since the time the extras were announced. Literally zero people used the word "perfect" or any synonym, like flawless, to describe this release. In fact, the only user who used the word "perfect" was UniSol GR77:
Quote:
This is the blu-ray release of 2015, no doubts. ***

"Theatrical Cut = Fake ARMY.
International Cut = True ARMY.
Director's Cut = Perfect ARMY
Here is the list of positive descriptors people have used:
[Show spoiler]awesome x4
ultimate edition
fantastic
amazing
solid
"no perfect cut of the movie"
great set
decent set
"theatrical cut with the DC ending would be pretty much perfect, IMO."
great x3
terrific
comprehensive
impressive
good
rockin' special features
sweet

The most common feeling I'm getting from those happy about this release is that they are all excited about the amount of content and the amount of effort Scream put into this release. It obviously has not lived up to expectations of everyone and that's to be expected. However, for most this is a satisfactory release and there may be some "scream defenders," but there are also a fair amount of "scream haters."

To be fair to them, "worth getting" is entirely subjective. And if the only version of the film you cared about, for example, were the Theatrical cut, and you didn't care about extras, then this definitely wouldn't be worth getting for people who already own the Screwhead Edition blu-ray. I wouldn't argue with anyone who felt that way.

Actually, there's a lot of room for improvement on the Director's Cut. My observations of the German disc match up with tenia's comments on the French disc (from the French disc's thread):

Some shots are really nice, like the wide shot of Ash entering the castle, or when they all go to the cemetary but a much bigger number of scenes is simply disappointing.

Adeed to this, a lot of shots with optical SFX have a bad look, cheap, dirty, blurry.

The worst is the arrival of the army at the 64th min, which looks absolutely awful : dirty, close to over-compressed, and with plenty of noise.

Also, but I don't know about this precisely, I always understood there are currently no HD material for the scenes unique to the DC.
At the very least, I'd love to see some of the dirt cleaned up. This is the cut I'm most interested in, as I'm already quite happy with the UK Theatrical Cut. The European Cut sounds interesting, but realistically, I'll probably never watch it. I wouldn't mind the new documentary either, but it's not enough to make me want to double dip. I'm also trying to avoid supporting Scream Factory when I can, as I find them to be a very unprofessional company. Sure, the bashing goes too far sometimes and involves things beyond their control, but what really leaves a bad taste in my mouth is the way they interact with their customers and the public in general.
