A: Unfortunately, we were not able to do a new transfer of the theatrical cut (which was provided by our partners at Universal). However, we did do additional color correction.
Q: Why is the International version a 4K transfer and not the Director’s Cut?
A: Our original intention was to do a new 4K scan on the director’s cut, so we started with elements that were available in the MGM vault. Unfortunately, we could not find all of the additional footage (film and audio) for the 96 minute Director’s Cut.
This should be noted as well.

It IS a really nice package (four cuts, a feature-length doc, etc), but the theatrical is my favorite and it sucks that we're basically getting the same ugly monstrosity we already have. And I'm wary of their "additional color correction."

On the plus side, though, the price is pretty outstanding for what they've put together.

I don't understand all the complaining? The theatrical cut is probably the weakest cut of the film. The International cut should now look great, and apparently the Director's Cut already looks great on the import versions. Would anyone ever actually watch the Theatrical Cut over the other cuts?

You really can't understand that some people might prefer the original cut for various reasons? The cut that, by the way, is canon and being used for the new TV show? This is something you just cannot fathom?

I'm pretty sure the International cut includes the theatrical ending, so you can watch that version if you are worried about canon with the new TV show. Most agree the theatrical cut is the weakest cut of the film.

"This version was created because the distributors (primarily Universal) had the final cut and arbitrarily demanded editing changes where they and their focus groups and test screening audiences saw fit. Everything unrelated to the central plot was trimmed back, and new sections were ordered to be shot, including a new introduction, and a more heroic ending. This version of the film is by far the least coherent; because the shooting script was so linear, it proved difficult to remove so much footage, and then edit the film in to a form that made total sense from beginning to end."

http://www.bookofthedead.ws/website/..._versions.html

Don't get me wrong, it would have been nice had they remastered it, but it's not the end of the world. We are still getting a new 4k scan of the International cut, the Director's cut which apparently looks great on the import releases, the TV cut as a nice bonus, all the previous released extras, tons of new extras including 96 min. + 55 min. documentaries. This will still be the ultimate edition of the film! It just shows, you can't please everyone.

So... I've looked this up dozens of times but I always forget, does the International Cut have the S-Mart ending? I like them both, but find it to be the stronger one, if only for the one-liners.

I've never seen the international cut, but between the theatrical and director's cut, I prefer the theatrical. (The DC has lots of great stuff restored, but the ending ruins it for me.)

You may enjoy the International cut then, as if you read the link I included, it looks to be a melding of the Director's Cut with the theatrical ending, although it is missing a few additions from the Director's Cut, as well as has a few other minor changes.

The 90 minute documentary alone gets me excited for Army of Darkness. The fact they're including 3 major cuts on 3 separate discs is awesome and even including an additional TV cut. Sure, the Theatrical isn't getting a new transfer, but at least one cut is. I don't foresee there being any other releases of AoD that includes as much as the Scream one does. I'm glad I held off on getting the current Universal release, I was within a week of finally cracking down and getting it before Scream put out the word they're putting together a release. Definitely worth waiting for.

Completely agree!! Just wish people weren't so "nit-picky" on here, but hey, what can you do, right.

i think its in typical scream fashion to give a 4k transfer to the international version and a recycled transfer to the u.s. theatrical version.

God forbid anyone expresses disappointment that the canon, original cut of the movie... the one on disc one btw... is a crappy old transfer. What would you like me to do? Pretend that's not the case? Pretend I don't care?

Yes, some people on here are "nit-pickers," but blind defenders aren't any better.

There's a difference between expressing disappointment and just blatantly being negative. Most of the nay sayers don't understand or refuse to accept this. Would I have prefered a fresh scan of the theatrical cut, of course, but the inclusion of the already available disc in addition to 3 other cuts and lengthy documentaries is hardly reason for people to complain up a storm. This is the Definitive release of the film, whether I or anyone else likes it this is going to be the best most complete release. There are way WAY to many good things going for this release for people to be so negative about it. If you don't like the release, don't support it, but to say it's not definitive or that it's poor in any fashion is assinine.

If the only thing being presented was the theatrical cut already in existence with new features people would have good reason to complain, however this is so much more than that. Mild disappoint is fine, but the way some people go on and on about things you'd assume the disc themselves didn't play or were faulty in some way. This is going to be an amazing release that could have been better, but as is is still fantastic.
