Stupid people deserve to get taken advantage of in this manner.

Yes 4K would be better, it means they would capture more information but you really wouldn't see a difference on a standard bluray, it would have to be UHD bluray for it to matter, you would need a 4K TV, UHD player and they would have to produce another format other than the standard bluray. I don't see a reason to complain, 2K is perfect for 99% of the population. People *****ing about it not being a 4K scan are just complaining because they want it better and think they should have it since the technology exists. Unfortunately SF would have to license differently for that format too, just like standard DVD's are a different license. Hope this helps clear it up a little for you
I don't think you need UHD to see the difference, especially for a 65mm movie or one shot in 4k. Even with 35mm you would see a tighter grain profile probably. However in the end it is mostly superfluous in general since the vast majority of modern movies are shown on a 2k finish in theaters on the big screen, let alone in your house. Even the UHD format is pushing its color and contrast improvements more than resolution.

You are correct. I was just over simplifying. If you scan at a higher resolution then down sample the resolution you can get a better picture but it's pretty damn negligible for the average viewer and it may not be worth the time and effort on SF part, not really sure how that aspect of their business works. There are probably a handful of factors that go into choosing whether they choose to do a 4K or 2K scan. I personally don't think I would notice that big of a difference on something like Return of the Living Dead from a 2K to 4K scan.

Just one... It costs significantly more to do a 4k scan than it does to do a 2k scan.

Remember we were still dealing with whatever masters the studios handed over just a short time ago. Scream Factory isn't likely going to jump in and start doing 4k scans unless they expect a film to sell really really well. For the most part I'm more than satisfied if we get fresh 2k scans for some of these films.

If we've progressed into an era where new 2K masters are becoming more common as opposed to labels using whatever the studios handed over then that alone is a huge step forward. I could live in a world where 2K scans are the standard - not everything needs to be done in 4K.

USA Question

I was wondering if anyone knew who had the rights for Class of 1999 I and II and if Scream could release them? Thanks for your time and help.

Yeah, though you start to get into the limits of the original film being scanned. At a certain point, there's only so much detail to be mined, and even a 999999999999k scan won't look any better.

Sadly these don't have HD masters yet either to the best if my knowledge. Both aired over the weekend on the El Rey network and both were 4:3 video masters. These two films are definitely not coming anytime soon to the US.

Regarding Class of 1999, I think this is the best we will get for now.

Shame as it is another title Lionsgate are holding hostage and doing nothing with. I tried to get a little push petition going to contact Lionsgate about cataloge titles but the response was poor.

Does anyone know why The Serpent and the Rainbow is constantly SO expensive on Amazon, especially when compared to other films from the same Universal deal?

No clue, but deep discount has it for like $17 and some change after their 15% off discount. If you spend $25, you'll get free shipping.

No clue, it's very odd. It's cheaper from Scream Factory, Deep Discount, Best Buy and Diabolik. No reason for it. I grabbed it last month from DD for $21 plus a discount code so it came out to $18 I think.

Comic-con announcements will round out October and November. August announcements if any should finish December/the year.

That's to be expected. As I've said before, SDCC usually brings us titles for November, December and beyond.

Might even get an announcement today. Carrie is confirmed for October, but will it be Criterion or Scream? It would be nice if we got Child's Play and Dead Ringers in October too, so that none of the SDCC announcements are spoiled.
