Doomsday and Death Race are two late 2000's Universal titles I'd love to see get a Scream upgrade.

I haven't seen The Arrival in a long time but I recall really enjoying it and thinking it was one of Charlie Sheen's best movies. I remember being surprised when Siskel & Ebert gave it two thumbs up and said it was excellent.
The scorpions scene is one of the most suspenseful things I've ever seen.

And yeah, I just dug the look and aura of the movie. Need to pull out the Blu-ray soon to revisit it.

Love both of those films, not sure why they need a re-release. Rather see some films never released on disc.

As far as his horror offerings go, I did enjoy Pitch Black and A Perfect Getaway. I think The Arrival is one of the more intriguing "alien invasion" flicks since the early 80s. Below has a lot of interesting things about it (not the least of which is screenplay contributions from Darren Aronofksy and a pre-Hangover Zach Galifianakis) but I failed to find it very compelling.

What are your thoughts on him?
I really like Pitch Black and A Perfect Getaway; well-crafted, intelligent genre films that are just looking to entertain the audience. I think he casts and directs his actors well (I know most fans love Pitch Black for Vin Diesel, but I love it for the terrific Radha Mitchell). I have to admit I've not seen Twohy's other Riddick films (and I own Chronicles Of Riddick! I've no excuse...). A friend of mine who is a real film snob nonetheless loves The Arrival, so I really need to watch that one (I confess I'm put off by Charlie Sheen, but the film has a solid cult reputation so I will watch it one of these days). I agree with you on Below, which has the novelty of being the only WW II haunted sub film to my knowledge, but ends up being rather predictable. Still, that cast is great (Bruce Greenwood and Olivia Williams especially) and seeing Zach Galifianakis in a rare dramatic role is a plus as well.

His screenwriting credits run the gamut for me. I've never cared for G.I. Jane and think Waterworld is pretty dire, but The Fugitive is one of my favorite 90's action films.

D'oh! I knew that I was forgetting some. The Slayer is a solid fun horror film, and it takes place in my own state.

Nice! Doomwatch is languishing in my still-unwatched stack after I bought it from a Kino sale not long ago.

I saw a movie about an island that was ruled over by pirates, and Michael Caine and his son are kidnapped and brought to the island. Once they are on the island, Michael Caine's son is brainwashed, and Michael Caine has to escape from the island with him! I think it was called A Piece of Land Surrounded by Water.

The British movie Wilderness (I believe it was an island, been a while) was decent but damn was it mean-spirited.

Most do. Which makes it a true mystery why Scream Factory hasn't cashed in on the love for WHEN A STRANGER CALLS... BACK! yet, but are more than willing to scrape the bottom of the barrel with titles that, while niche fans will certainly love, aren't very marketable to more mainstream horror collectors.

The Lighthouse, aka: Dead of Night (1999) is one of the most underrated genre gems of the '90s and is very much an island horror movie:

"A murderer kills crash survivors one by one when a boat carrying prisoners crashes near a desolate island."

Also, The Mutilator takes place at the Outer Banks, though I suspect you may have already seen that one. As a North Carolinian and slasher fanatic, I LOVE it!

Not quite an island, and definitely not an award winner, but I enjoyed Turistas. Unfortunately, still doesn't have a blu release. Another one I liked was the Ruins.

I totally forgot to mention Screamers and Raw Force. Those are cool little films.

Recently watched this On Demand and could not believe how bad the CGI was at one point (someone falls off a cliff I believe?). Fun island horror flick tho!

Yep.

Incidentally, I forgot to list Jaws: The Revenge, which also stars Michael Caine on an island.

The shark in this movie seems to spend an inordinate amount of time out of water, and that's the main draw of this flick.

THE MAD ROOM (1969) takes place on Vancouver Island, Canada. It's a good "island gothic," as well as crossing over into "Horror Hag" territory.

A piece of crap no matter what you call it.

Has any bonafide movie star been in more flat out turkeys than Michael Caine?

The Island isn't a bad flick. I was entertained.

It's just that Peter Benchley stories that aren't named “Jaws” just don't quite have that dynamic grab.

Figured I'd take another shot at this request:

Anyone got a LAKE PLACID slipcover they're wanting to get rid off?
