I recognize the brilliance of Rosemanry's Baby but the setting is what has kept me from warming up to it. I don't care for the 60's and 70's New York aesthetic. I'm certain there are quite a few films were that doesn't bother me, but with RB its such a slow burn and its so New York that I just get to the point where I don't want to spend another minute there. I understand that I'm completely alone on this opinion.

Rosemary's Baby has an amazing finale.

Yeah, count me in on the "not a fan" camp in regards to Rosemary's Baby.

Plus compared to The Exorcist, there's not much for me to get scared of.

...honestly, in regards to Polanski, I prefer Chinatown and what I've seen of The Tenant. The latter is actually far scarier than Rosemary.

[Show spoiler]Also, in a freak occurance, I ended up getting the Criterion blu-ray for free. Wasn't even my fault, it was pure incompetence on Costco's staff. Not that it matters since they don't sell Criterions anymore.

"Repulsion" is Polanski's most frightening and disturbing film IMO, although I am a big fan of "Rosemary's Baby". Another excellent Polanski thriller that doesn't get mentioned that much is "Death and the Maiden".

I too really like Death and the Maiden. I wonder if that will ever get a chance on Blu-ray. Ghost Writer is one of my favorites.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre The Next Generation is on Showtime Beyond right now. The picture quality looks pretty much what I would expect it to look like on the Blu ray. Definitely HD but not necessarily anything that's going to blow people away in 2018. I noted a few small instances of print damage or white specks but nothing overtly distracting. It's hard to say for sure that this is how the Scream Factory Disc will look, but my hunch is that both will use the same transfer. If you have the channel, now is your chance to give the film a look.

There's such a wide range of horror movies, from big-budget slow burners like 'Rosemary's Baby', to thrillers like 'Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?', slasher flicks like 'Friday the 13th' to pure gore porn like the 'SAW' franchise.

I personally would classify 'Rosemary's Baby' as a suspense-thriller as opposed to flat out Horror.....OR a HORROR that unfolds like a suspense thriller. The content throughout really isn't all that horrifying, and the journey is rather slow-paced without all the cliche elements that make up what we typically consider to be 'horror.' However, it remains very eerie and dark throughout....until the finale when the true horror is finally revealed.

If one goes in expecting this to be a HORROR film, they might be disappointed. But if presented as a suspense-thriller, it will certainly deliver the chills they are expecting and then re-think it as a horror after that climax.

This same transfer is also on Amazon Video, Vudu, and Itunes case anyone wants to see it. I'm 100% certain that Scream's BD will be this same source, only with slightly better compression.

I still remember the first time in the 90’s, and my mom said, “you haven’t seen Rosemary’s Baby?”. So we went to the library, I was about 10, and we rented the VHS tape, and it instantly became one of my favorite horror films! I also really love The Exorcist!

It being "slow" has nothing to do with why I don't like it much. I just don't care for the story or characters much.

Okay, you can dislike it for other reasons too.

I'm assuming you ordered direct from Shout? I ordered from Amazon.ca. Says still pending and release date is October 9. Looking forward to revisiting this one!

All I had to do was take a look at your collection to understand why you feel the way you do about Rosemary's Baby. Actually, all I did was scroll halfway down the first page. I got my answer at "4K Collection"

Really? Interesting. That's one of my all-time number ones. The tension, visuals, pacing...I consider Rosemary's Baby a masterwork on every level. I'm glad it's at Criterion, where it belongs. It has a beautiful transfer and a load of extras. I think the Shining and the Exorcist also belong at Criterion.

For me it's a combination of your reasoning, as well as being slow.

I absolutely love a good, slow-burn horror/thriller. BUT, I also have to find the story and/or the characters compelling to some degree.

I never care about anything happening in that movie. I never found myself wondering if she was just losing it, or if there really was something sinister happening. As that seemed obvious throughout.

Again, it has little details I appreciate, like the banality of her neighbor trying to spit-shine the spot off the floor during the end chant. It is a well made movie. But, on the whole, I couldn't find a single story thread or character to care about.

I am wondering how they prioritize their shipping.

I have seen a couple posts here, and know a few local collectors who pre-ordered just within the last week, and they got shipping/tracking info on Monday night/Tuesday morning.

I pre-ordered back in July, mine have been sitting in "Processing" for 3 days now, but no shipping yet.

Meanwhile, said local friends and I had a reverse scenario with ROTLD2. The pre-ordered back when it was announced, while I waited until mid July.
They still got there's about 2 weeks early, but my copy arrived 5 days ahead of theirs.

Probably just coincidence, as "anec-data" from two shipments is hardly evidence of anything. But, with how excited I am for these releases, my brain is still going to try to make connections.

You're really not... I don't like the '60s/early '70s as a time period for most films, let alone the cliche NYC setting.
