Just as I expected. IIRC, it’s been a while since SF got anything from Fox. And Fox titles licensed to other studios that have been OOP for a while (License To Drive comes to mind) were never picked up by another studio.

I know they said that, but considering all of the R/MA content they will have between them and Fox, I find that difficult to believe. If Netflix and other streaming services can have adult content, so can they. Maybe they will have a separate tier that customers can add on to include adult content.

And no, they won’t stop physical entirely. They’ll probably keep releasing new movies fresh from theaters, and select mainstream hits. Catalog stuff that we want? Probably not much.

I guess I’d better get around to scooping up Fox titles (from them and licensed out) that I want sooner rather than later.

I thought I heard they would reserve R-rated/TV-MA content for Hulu, which they would own most of if they purchased Fox. That would also include huge ongoing TV shows like American Horror Story.

I highly doubt they would stop physical media entirely. Their releases (especially Star Wars, Marvel, Beauty & the Beast, etc) are some of the highest selling in the business right now. Plus I doubt their streaming service would have Fox’s classic Hollywood films of the 1930s-1960s. Disney and Fox both have a relationship with Kino and Criterion, and I don’t expect that to stop. Any holdouts on Fox licenses probably has more to do with uncertainty if anything. All the Fox licenses may end if the company is purchased by Disney, but I’m not 100% sure. Plus, we don’t know if Disney’s streaming service will be a hit, and apparently a lot depends on it being a big one.

I wonder what would happen to the MGM licenses. The catalog isn’t owned by Fox, but MGM uses them as home video distributor. Every license from MGM has Fox’s name and/or logo on the packaging. MGM would probably also change home video distributors.

This is why a part of me wishes Comcast got Fox instead. Universal probably releases more to physical media than any other big studio, and do a lot of licensing, even if often at the expense of new transfers.

While it's probably a good idea to scoop up what Fox titles you want now while you can, I can see this easily being another paramount/warner situation where titles go oop and then are re-issued a few months later under Disney branding. Disney is going to need to hard sell their new streaming service and one way to do so would be to include a (7day/2week/1 month) trial coupon inside these older films. Repackaging the existing discs with codes to try to the service is going to be one way to encourage folks to check it out given that it will be competing against Prime Video, Netflix, and all the other streaming services.

In the long run I would expect that it will become more expensive/difficult to obtain many of these Fox titles, but in the near future (ie the next year or two) I would think that most should stay readily available other than a small period of time when things switch branding.

I'm not confident they'll re-release a lot of these things, or release anything previously unreleased. Just based on the fact that Disney themselves is sitting on quite a few titles that they don't seem to want to release themselves or source out.

I hope that's the case, but it seems like they can hard push the streaming service by just not offering the films anywhere else. If you want to watch OOP Blu-ray Title A, just buy a subscription to the streaming service. This is where titles like Six Days, Seven Nights and Three Men and a Baby will eventually turn up.

Was there a section of this thread or a different where people have showed off their Scream Factory collections? Wasn't sure if anyone here had bought every release they've put out.

All TT posted was that they are postponing Iron Horse because they are not sure if Disney will allow Fox to do more restoration work. They didn't say anything about Disney stopping all physical media.

Disney and Fox have both been supporting UHD. Hell it was just announced today that Disney's animated classics will be coming to UHD. There's zero reason its streaming service and disc release businesses can't co-exist, targeting different customer bases.

That said Disney have always been slow with catalog material, and I doubt that gets any better. How much that impacts Fox we shall see.

Hell, Disney just did business with Shout themselves for Gravity Falls (which I'm sure sold very well), so if anything, I don't see Disney stopping Fox's Shout deals.

You'd be incorrect, Shout is releasing Get Shorty and The Man in the Iron Mask later this year. Both of those movies are Fox titles (from the MGM library).

Those still aren't real Fox titles. They don't own MGM's library they're a co-distributor/licenser.

True, but how many Shout releases are properly from the main Fox library? I don't think there's really that much, it's been mostly the MGM movies. Plus, even if Fox doesn't fully own MGM, they still handle pretty much everything for home media.

I picked up the It's Alive trilogy for $20 last night... In case anyone is looking for this set. I was pretty pumped to find it after passing on it at Best Buy earlier in the day for $15 extra.

At one point in the past I believe user Schwano had all of them. He posted photos at the time but I have no idea if he's still kept up with the line or not.

Meanwhile, in my inbox from the folks @ Scream.......

"Thank you for your pre-order for Trick 'r Treat [Collector's Edition]. During the summer, there was an industry-wide upheaval in the disc manufacturing process, due to the majority of production being consolidated at a single plant. Understandably, this has caused some of our delivery dates to be delayed. This delay inhibits our ability to ship Trick 'r Treat to you two weeks early. Instead, these orders will ship starting next week, to arrive one week earlier than the national street date.

We apologize for the delay. Please accept this coupon code for $4 off your next purchase from ShoutFactory.com.* We really appreciate your business."

I imagine Disney ether won't renew or completely axe MGM's distribution with Fox, which wouldn't be surprising since their recent extension was up to 2019.

Weather MGM (otherwise separate from Fox ownership thankfully) will sub-licence direct to labels and business + money continues as usual, or they decide to form a new distribution arrangement with another studio that may me pickier or not allow sub-licencing to labels, would another 2000 page debate once official statements emerge.

I just got the same email. I just hope this manufacturing crunch doesn't have some sort of effect on disc quality later on. A single plant for most Scream and Shout releases, or for literally every Blu-ray distributor? That sounds insanely ridiculous...

I guess that might be why Mill Creek's Nightwing/Shadow of the Hawk was delayed to Oct 2nd. But probably something else.
