Yeah, I’m not selling my old releases anymore. Newer doesn’t always equal better.

It's insane to sell something before you get the new one. Shit happens.

Oh well, at least there's the b***hin' new slipcover, right? R-right? Lmao

Edit- Really Blu-ray.com? I can't say b i t c h i n? Give me a break.

Also, not trying to stir things, or be a negative Nancy. I realize for every release like The Craft, there's a loaded release like Urban Legend. I just don't understand how it all works, I guess.
Well now all 4 ladies will be there after Rachel True called out an “unnamed” convention for advertising a cast reunion while she was never even invited. I’m not going into the details due to this being a Blu-ray forum, but it’s worth a read. She brings up some other items that she was left out of back when the movie came out...

Scream should delay the release and try to interview them or film their reunion. Make it work! Make this worthwhile to the fans.

If Universal won’t license Child’s Play 2 and 3 to Scream Factory, why won’t they release a collectors edition themselves?

I still think these will happen, perhaps this year. Shout must have agreed a new deal with Universal last year, and I'd be surprised (in regard to the Scream line) it was just for 30s-50s stuff and the odd post-1960 title (there isn't a great deal left, aside from some 00s stuff and TV movies). Given they had seemingly secured deals with Warner Bros and Sony around this time, I'm not convinced that Shout would have gone after all these older Universal horror titles if there weren't a few high-profile CE-worthy upgrades included in the package (I know the deal would have included Shout Select titles, but still). I still can't see them getting the Jaws sequels, but there's still some potential there:

Dracula (1979) (if the colour timing can be addressed)
An American Werewolf in London (probably unlikely)
Child's Play 2
Tremors
Child's Play 3
The Frighteners (can't see much room for improvement here)
Bride of Chucky
End of Days
Red Dragon
Seed of Chucky
Dead Silence

Yup, I learned that lesson many years ago. Nowadays, I keep whatever the old thing is until I have the new one in my hands, then I get rid of it.

Getting rid of an earlier edition of a movie Shout was about to re-release was probably a wise move in the beginning but not now. Now it's probably better to just keep the older one. A lot of stuff Shout is releasing today don't have fresh scans and contain very little and, in many cases, boring extras. And slipcovers are no longer a selling point.

I truly can't imagine re-buying something like The Craft when there's no remaster and just some new interviews. Scream's new interviews are boring as hell most of the time. I just tried to watch the one with the director of Screamers and it starts out "how did you get interested in movies?" and I just instantly checked out. Whooooo caaaaares what this c-level director watched growing up?

If you want me to pay $25-30 for a movie it needs to be a Blu-ray debut, a nice remaster or a super deluxe package like Arrow does with better new supplements and maybe a book and collector's case. Anything else is a big L-O-L.

Shout seems always like it has been a mixed bag in PQ - which is understandable given the very expensive licenses they undertake that probably doesn't leave that much budget for restoration - but recently their remasters have been quite good for the most part, more good than bad. The key is waiting for the details where it is revealed whether a new scan or was done or not - while it wasn't done for THE CRAFT and STARMAN, it seems more often than not Shout recently is doing new scans that are better than the old; but sometimes these only scans are only incrementally better. There are exceptions, but that goes for every label.

So for the most part safe to preorder i'd say if a new scan is being advertised, as long as you are okay with only a potential incremental upgrade instead of a massive one. Also helps if you like the look of their low contrast / preserved highlights transfers they've been putting out recently.

Agreed. There are exceptions, but most of my buys now are stuff like Urban Legend, Valley Girl, Valentine’s Day, The Blue Dahlia, 10 Til Midnight, Candyman and Single White Female. I’m not paying 30 bucks for stuff like City Slickers and Quigley Down Under when have good, cheap and easily available releases already.

I thought URBAN LEGEND's transfer was slightly inferior to the old Sony disc?

BTW Hamilton had City Slickers for $20, but definitely not the first movie in line for an upgrade for me.

I haven’t seen the original release. Infact, I’ve never seen the full movie. I only paid 17.50 for the Collectors release. The original release is going for 20 bucks on Amazon right now.

I agree, and I find extras of little value, unless those extras are things like an alternate cut of the film, isolated score, and theatrical trailer for good measure.

Stuff like commentaries unless its drunk trey parker and matt stone I have no interest in listening to, nor most interviews or featurettes. Would rather watch another movie.

Yeah I picked up Urban Legend for the 2 hour+ doc. I’m tempted by Sleepwalkers since they got new interviews with Madchen Amick and Peter Krause, but I will have to find it on sale. But since the prices have gone up, if it is not the first time on blu-ray, I wait for reviews even if it is a new scan. I thought that it was a missed opportunity that they did not get new interviews with the cast of the Craft as that would have been something that might have made it worthwhile. I guess Sony is not allowing new scans at least with Shout/Scream releases, but I wish someone could put out Wild Things with a new scan and maybe a retrospective with the cast.

So what say you... Will this be the year that "The Beastmaster" finally see's a US release? I was having a bit of a hard time finding something I wanted to watch tonight as I was scanning my collection. I came across Clash of the Titans and that got me thinking about The Beastmaster again... I'd love for a solid US release and Scream Factory seems most likely to accommodate that request. Anyone have any insight into what the hold-up has been?

It might be a rights issue that's probably holding it up. At least theres a region free version from Umbrella available (the newer Umbrella release is region free not the older version).

Is this version still for sale anywhere? I went looking around briefly and couldn't find it.

Ive seen it back in stock a few times at Diabolik so id say keep an eye out there. You could also email them see if/when they'll be getting more.
