Next please announce Super Sentai. We know Kamen Rider Geats is coming but I would love for Sentai to be announced soon.

I knew Jeff had left, but I missed that Cliff is also gone. Any deets on why or if he's with another label?

As they've released 4K scan collector's editions before, first in HD and then UHD, (such as Creepshow (1982) and more recently Tales From the Darkside (1990) among many others) it's certainly possible. But probable...well if I were a betting man I would expect one of these...maybe.

The only other Hammer film that I know of that already has a 4K scan is The Revenge of Frankenstein (1958). That's Sony and they did that one themselves. The only proper HD release was by Indicator UK. So who has a deal with Sony in the US...Mill Creek and they used an old beat-up master which is included in their Hammer Box Set.

Certainly, with that one, I would say all bets are off.
They did a new 4k scan for Vampire Lovers, but that was just a remastered blu.

Seems like outside the Classic Universal Monsters older (pre late 70s) horror is rare on 4k. In the case of the Monster stuff Universal did that themselves so its not like a boutique had to license that. I wonder if there is much of a market for it tbh.

Right you are! I had forgotten about that one which was also released as a collector's edition. So that makes three possibilities for a Hammer UHD from SF. But again, as you alluded to, probabilities...?

The DVD was released by Columbia (Sony), but it was a Phoenician Entertainment production, so I have no idea who owns it now.

If Cliff was responsible for Shout's Japanese cinema output at the label, isn't it safe to say he'll bring the same fervor to Arrow? So essentially you won't be losing anything, just getting it from another (better?) label. The HK and Martial Arts stuff isn't going anywhere but I don't know how well Japanese genre films are selling comparatively. I don't see a slowdown either way so I guess it's going well. I, on the other hand, am lamenting the the perceived decrease in slasher films. Vinegar Syndrome's 2024 schedule only lists two forthcoming so that's very concerning. Meanwhile, HK and other Asian genres are getting a big boost at VS. I'm just not into that stuff as much as other folks but I'm thankful that my collection is almost as complete as it can be so I'm happy.

Me neither (Phoenician = the late Franchise Pictures)...
but Shout must have licensed it a while ago since the film has been on their ShoutTV platform as well as Apple, Prime etc for 1 or 2 years ago...

Sadly, I'm afraid they might have decided to put it out on disc because of the passing of Anthony Hickox...

I saw the poster allotments going fast, didn't think all would sell out that quickly. Interesting set but not really my thing. 7 films but on 4 discs and no inner cases it seemed, a bit overpriced at 70.

I am sure they will find more soon or do another limited pressing if this sold out in less than a day.

It’s the poster that’s low not the title outright, they won’t make more posters but they are indeed selling fast.

I didn't even realize the movie Jill Rips also goes by Jill the Ripper. That's a way better name. Jill Rips sounds absolutely terrible. I mean, neither is great, but why they went with Jill Rips is over the other is beyond me.

Watched The Velvet Vampire again on Shudder last night. Love the film and really wish SF would just do a repress already.

They haven't even licensed out the HD master that's on the blu and the copy that's on streaming is in SD. Feels like a crime to hold an HD master of this film hostage like that.

The TV and Film rights to DUNE were held at New Amsterdam Productions; from when Rubinstein produced the 2000 TV mini series, WB paid a fee for the rights and gave Rubinstein an Executive Producer credit. He had no creative input nor a profit from Denis Villeneuve's film box office.

JILL RIPS is the original title of the film, and of the Scottish novel (by Frederic Lindsay) it's based on. It might also be contractual to use with the new licensor...

Yeah, I'm sure SF has no choice. I was talking more about the studio for going with Jill Rips over the alternative.

For regular BD, there really aren't that many American slashers left I would imagine. Even the giallo films have been mined pretty good, but still a decent amount left.

The HK stuff is a gold mine for me, as is the Japanese films and there are THOUSANDS of good ones left there, so I guess that's why labels are going after them because there are so many of them and they have to do things a bit differently. Once a lot of the main American films hit 4K, what's next? Same film, but more features?

Either way, I feel like there are some HK films you would really enjoy like the The Long Arm of the Law films from 88 Films which were two of the best crime films I've seen in awhile, especially the first one. It was really brutal.

And hope you're right about Cliff at Arrow. Man has great taste with Japanese cinema, so hoping we get some really good releases of films from them.

^ I guess you could say Cliff will be Arrow's Fran Simeoni and continue Simeoni's reverence for Japanese films at the label. It may also depend on Arrow's hierarchy and whether or not they want to keep delving into the genre or if they expect Cliff to bring a more Shout-like (as I call it) lineup with a lean towards horror, which would work just fine for me. It remains to be seen.
