just don't buy a 1080p TV unless you sitting close enough to see the 1080p.

e.g. 42": 6-7 feet
there are viewing distance charts for each size tv. if you're outside that distance, you should just save the money and buy a bigger 720p tv.

IIRC, there is/was a Sony that had a 120hz refresh on a 720p display.

I love both, but 1080p gets my vote.

I stand corrected.. 99% of 120HZ TV's are 1080P

I would rather have 1080p, plasmas and LCDs are all coming down in price so you should be able to find a nice sized one for a good price. I am not that big into the whole 120 hz gig because when properly claibrated, you shouldn't see motion lag on and LCD whether it is or isn't 120 hz. Most LCDs all process at 6ms or less response time now(response time is the speed at which the pixels open and close) and really anything under 16ms is too fast for the human eye to recognize, until you are right up on the screen inches from the display. I think the original LCDs that had issues with this may have been because the engines driving the displays weren't as good as they are now. I equate this with burn-in on a plasma, it is a thing of the past, sometimes there can be minor image retention(which goes away) but that is becoming more rare now too.

I have an older 8ms response time 60hz LCD and I have never had motion lag. So to answer your question again, I would take a larger 60hz 1080p LCD or a larger plasma over the 120hz.
