Default Unable to play Blu-ray from Sony Laptop to TV?

Hi all,

My first post and probably the most important one. Forgive me if this is an obvious problem but i'd love some details and if possible a solution please.

I've just purchased a new Sony Vaio Laptop which has a Blu-ray drive in it. The picture on the true 1080 17" laptop screen is fantastic however I want to output it onto my HD TV.

I've purchased a HDMI lead and connected the twotogether and Vista Home Prmium recognizes a DMI monitor has been attached... that one good thing.

I then put in 'Casino Royale' and played it via the Sony Intervideo WinDVD BD for Vaio program... It plays for about the first 4 seconds then I get a message at the top of the screen saying'

'Your Display environment does not support protected content playback'

The DVD then stops!?!?!?

Is this a problem with DRM? Help please?

How can I get it to play back on my TV?

Thanks in advance

Matt

Sounds like either your TV or your laptop doesn't support HDCP, or that you're having handshaking issues.

hi, I have an update....

I managed to get both talking to each other, once the laptop recognized the TV I set -up the external display (TV) to something X 720 resolution and was able to play HD files using media player. However if I tried to set the resolution to 1280X1080 (for 1080 HD) and then select the TV from the laptop it says that the video configuration is not supported?

Someone told me there is a difference between 1080 and 1080i. I suspect the laptop is 1080 and tv 1080i, anyone know what the difference is?

Also as Blu-ray DVDs are 1080 is there anyway the ask a blu-ray dvd player to play them for 720??

fingers crossed someone knows a solution here, i'm so near!!

What kind of TV do you have? Make/model please.

You need to set to 1920x1080, that might be your problem. It sounds like you have ot set the laptop to the resolution of the TV, which sounds like is only 1280x720 (720p)

Also, when playing BD movies, you can't be using an extended desktop or mirrored desktop. The TV has to become the monitor.

Uhm, here on this AR190G, it WILL play on both the laptop screen AND the TV screen at the same time!

One of it's main features even...

I get this when I hit Fn + F7:

Does your computer output 1366x768? Try sending it that.

Many 1080i TVs are actually 1366x768 in resolution. They accept a 1080i signal, but downscale it to fit the 1366x768 resolution.
