On my ASUS N50VN laptop using windvd8 and a hdmi to hdmi lead I cannot play blu-ray movies on my sony bravia lcd tv? I get sound but no video (just blackness). Tried every possible display setting alternative to no avail (eg. multiple displays, single displays, clone, etc). Tried to play a regular dvd and no probs. Cannot seem to adjust windvd8 video setup options as the selections are locked.
Any ideas welcomed. |

My understanding is all components through which the signal passes must be HDCP compliant, or you get nada. If you try going through an analog device, you get nada. My bet is your video card isn't HDCP compliant, or isn't configured correctly. |

AJ98 I can play blu-ray on the laptop so surely gpu must be hdcp compliant? However, any tips for checking my gpu for hdcp compliance please?
Dadkins the processor/power settings kinda makes sense so will check later and run the cyberlink advisor. Last edited by w8man; 03-23-2009 at 11:44 PM. Reason: Realised dumb question |

In the other thread, you stated that the advisor said the processor was not compliant... is the processor/power settings set to Battery Life or Adaptive?
If the processor is ramping down it may cause playback issues. Dude! That POS advisor won't even run on this VAIO! Try this one from Cyberlink: http://www.cyberlink.com/stat/bd-support/enu/index.jsp Kep in mind also - these things do get it wrong sometimes. Last edited by dadkins; 03-23-2009 at 07:56 PM. |

Did you try using VGA connection? Since HDCP shouldn't matter over an analog connection.

Not tried VGA but not really interested to try as only want the best picture possible via blu-ray and hdmi etc.

Now, whether you use the DAC in the HDTV or the DAC in the computer, it should give similar, if not identical, results for PQ. Using the VGA stops the HDCP check at that point(machine's DAC) and you can use a non-HDCP compliant display. HDMI has the added bonus of transporting audio as well as digital video source. I'm thinking there is a hiccup or setting that is wrong, either on the laptop or the TV itself. You may have to restart the machine for some some of the setting changes to take affect. |
