Default Switching Input Selection

I have been getting this weird noise from my TV speakers when i change the input setting on my TV. If I have my cable on and decide to play a game or watch a movie on my PS3, ill turn my receiver on and change the input source on the TV to "HDMI". After about 5 seconds my TV emits this static like noise that is somewhat similar to "its snowing" screen (my best description lol). This noise can usually be put to rest if I switch from HDMI to another source and back, but it just gets real annoying. Has anyone experienced this before? It only happens with HDMI and not component. Thanks.

By the way I have Energy Take Classics and a Pioneer VSX819H-K that are hooked up with bare speaker wire (no banana plugs).

Why are you using your TV speakers if you have Energy speakers?

explore your settings about audio through your TV with HDMI. Sounds to me like the tv is thinking it should be outputing audio, but either your PS3 or receiver isn't allowing it to, so it's having a temper-tantrum. I'm not positive on this as I've never experienced it, but try and check your tv audio settings for HDMI, then backtrack from there. Post results please.

i believe he states when he watches cable he has the receiver off and uses the tv speakers. when he wants to play a game or watch a movie then he turns on the receiver, and most likely is not turning off the speakers on the Tv.

My thought is if you are doing this you should either turn off the TV speakers or turn the volume all the way down and always use the receiver. And if not then you may want to turn the volume all the way down or mute it on the TV, when you decide to use the receiver.

If the hiss is from static with the hdmi cable you may want to ensure it isn't wrapped up with any other cords. If that doesn't help you may want to try another better HDMI cable or another hdmi port on the TV.

Sorry I forgot to say that i do not use my receiver when watching regular TV. Wouldn't it seem annoying to have to turn off my TV speakers everytime? I know i may not have an option..

Ok. I agree with slaizer2000 that you should turn the TV speakers off when you decide to use the AVR. I don't really understand why you wouldn't want to always use the AVR (many TV shows are now in 5.1).

Another option would be to run an optical cable from the cable box to the TV and setup the TV to use this for its audio (if possible) when you don't want to use the AVR.
