Default Why I am switching to a Mac!

It's not going to happen soon enough, that's for sure.

Right now, I find it hilarious that I can not play any of the movies on Apples site regarding OS X Leopards new features. I can download them and play them. However they will not play. It's just a blank page. I gave up on the laptop because on there, IE crashes when it loads the movies. The movie shows up corrupt and crashes IE. Gotta love it. After un-install, re-install, updates and rollbacks I threw in the towel. I was not going to re-install windows. No freaking way.

So that's one of the reasons I am switching. Oh, and I am tired of all the hoopla I have to go through just to make stuff work. After 10 years of IT and 18 years of using Winblows, I want something MORE! Mac is it.

I do have a few questions. I am going to work on picking up new software for my upcoming iMac purchase but I also want to start backing up my pics and vids.

1 - Does Mac support the normal jpg/gif/tif/png stuff?
2 - When I make a DVD of my pics, do I need to do anything special or can I just burn it like normal?
3 - Does Mac support my wmv files?

I have a book and I am reading it but sometimes things as simple as this are not in there. Thanks for any info you guys can offer!

Much appreciated.

Definitely.

Yes, just burn it. Even though you can burn it without any software. I still would recommend Toast Titanium 8 because there's more options to pick from.

Yes, you can download codecs for it. Flip4Mac is one of the best third-party codec suppliers when it come to playing wmv files. In fact, Microsoft endorses it because their official Windows Media Player is worthless.

Or you can run Windows under bootcamp for those few games you still want to run. I'm making the switch as well. Right now it is all about getting the cash together.

What's the news on the coming Leopard OS re: Bootcamp? I know that with Bootcamp you can reboot a Mac in Windows; I'd heard (several months ago, mind you) that one of Leopard's proposed features would allow for switching back & forth between OSs without rebooting...

If you use "Parallels" you can switch between Windows and OS X without rebooting. You don't need Leopard. If you look on YouTube theres a cool video that shows a program you can get that lets you "slap" the MacBook's side of the screen and it flips to Windows instantly and slap it again and it turns back to OS X. Parallels works really well. Essentially it turns the Mac into Windows and no reboot at all. You can also use "Virtual PC". You run your Mac like normal, open the program and good to go. When youre done with Windows you go to the "Start" menu and click "Shut down", just like a windows computer and that stops the program. Heck, you can even run both programs at once, having windows as a smaller window opened on your desktop.

Heres a link Parallels:http://www.apple.com/downloads/macos...topformac.html

1. yes
2. So easy, CD/DVD comes up on the desktop, drag and drop and press BURN!
3. Yes, Flip4mac, opens WMV in quicktime.

You've just made the best descion of your life, like choosing Blu over DVD.
PM me with anything else.

The only problem with Parallels is that you are running windows in a VM. If you want to run any kind of game you are going to need to dual boot into Windows.

VMWare Fusion has been getting better reviews than Parallels as of late. Either VM application will allow you to run Windows on your Mac without dual booting. Other than a few games and the need to run a parallel work environment at home, I have little need for Windows.

Sorry for some of the stupid questions. I am not a moron, I just don't know how "different" the Mac OS is and what I need to do to keep things compatible.

Congrats. I was a long time windows user until 2002 when I bought my first mac (an eMac). I also work in IT as a software developer.

Don't let anyone tell you that you need to run windows at home to be compatible with the office. There should be no need whatsoever to have to do any work from home outside of office hours . In the event that you do have to then you should be able to connect to your office and use MSFT's Remote Desktop Connection software for OS X to do what you need to do.

Sounds good. Only problem with that is, I work from home Most every day I do everything via phone or remote desktop. Keeps costs low and it's FUN! Only time I go onsite is for new installs for fix major issues that can not be handles via the two previously mentioned methods.

I can not find an answer to this and it would be nice to have one.

I am using Safari on Windows XP (which is blazing fast compared to FF and IE by a long shot). I have one issue, the back button on my mouse is not "recognized" in safari. How can I fix this? I did not pull anythhing up on google.

Thanks!

Are you saying the back arrow doesn't work or that you had a mouse button set to go back a page when using Windows.

BTW, I have been a PC user for over 20 years and went Mac. It seems that a number of people "in the know" are now using the 64-bit Macs. I wouldn't get it if I wanted to play games though.

The back button on the mouse works in IE but not Safari.

Make sure the button you want to use is mapped to the delete key.

Not sure I understand that. Pressing the Delete key on the keyboard does nothing.
