Default Star Trek 2009 surpasses all previous Star Trek in adjusted gross $

...Based on average ticket prices adjusted for inflation over the years. Luckily this will guarantee a sequel and a new series no doubt. I always look at the Adjusted Gross Net. Too many assholes are like "Dude, The Dark Knight is #2 all time!!" and say "Bullshit it is, its number 27, look at the adjusted gross, you have to account for inflation, douchebag!!!"

Star Trek: The Motion Picture $235,305,065
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan $192,719,413
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock $163,411,342
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home $212,328,919
Star Trek V: The Final Frontier $94,425,227
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country $127,720,425
Star Trek: Generations $129,980,545
Star Trek: First Contact $149,493,266
Star Trek: Insurrection $107,451,468
Star Trek: Nemesis $53,453,814
Star Trek 2009 $239,444,000

I do not think there was a doubt about this happening once the movie hit.

Good for them. I really enjoyed the film, especially since I know little about the original series. I am glad that they made a bunch of money and look forward to the sequel. I am also looking forward to purchasing this movie on blu.

I was surprised that ST: The Motion Picture did better in adjusted $$ than ST: Wrath of Kahn.

Every fan knows Wrath of Kahn is a much better movie. Surely it had better word of mouth. I would imagine that The Motion Picture had a better opening given that people waited 10 years for it. Also The Motion Picture is a much tripier psychodelic type movie... all the rage back then...

I am thrilled that Star Trek 2009 is doing so well. It should finish with $400 million worldwide. A sequel is coming for the current 2009 domestic box office champ.

I'm not.

Star Trek the Motion picture was anticipated by the fans a great deal more than Wrath of Khan, while Wrath of Khan might be touted by some fans as a better movie, the hype around The Motion Picture was just that much bigger.

Well, I'm surprised by how Star Trek: The Motion Picture is able to surpass The Wrath of Khan by its gross. However, I'm surprised that Star Trek 2009 surpassed all of the Star Trek films. Nice job, JJ Abrams!

Well deserved. It was a fantastic movie. I went and saw it twice in the theater.

It was anticipated by movie goers in general following Star Wars - I think many people were expecting a fun, sci-fi action movie - instead (for better or worse, depending on your POV), they got a slow, sci-fi exploration movie.

The problem even when adjusting for inflation is older movies didnt have to compete with their own HBO & bluray releases.
Now instead of going to the theatre some people wait for the movie on HBO/bluray so movies now get penalized....doesnt seem fair that way either.

Your point makes the fact that Star Trek 2009 eclipsing The Motion Picture even more amazing.
