Default JJ's Star Trek. Worldwide B.O. Sweeps. How much you think it'll gross?

OK guys and girls. I know the movie is still under four months from release, But what are your estimations for Star Trek's worldwide gross this year?

I'll get things started:

I'm estimating (and that is all it is so don't flay me if you're a trekkie) about $350 million total worldwide, around $190 million of that in the US.

This is just guess. But what about you?

I am a HUGE Star Trek fan and I am planning to see it but yeah a lot of them (I know quite a few) are planning not to see this movie. I think it look's fun I just won't be thinking of it as part of the normal Star Trek timeline.

I don't see how a true fan could not watch this. They have to see how bad it actually it is, and in this case, probably end up loving it.

I'm a big fan of Star Trek in all forms but I voted for 300 million for box office. I hope it will do a lot better. There are a few reasons for the conservative estimate:

- A reboot of the franchise (don't know how well it will come across - best case - gain more fans for the franchise...worst case - alienate some of the existing fan base)
- competition for ticket sales from Wolverine, Terminator, Up, Night at the Museum 2

It looks okay. I just don't want it to end up like the prequels of Star Wars which we're shown basically a different story then what we were told in the originals.

For example, in TOS, we're told Kirk was a bookworm who spent most his time in the Academy's library. I can see these guys making Kirk out to be some dare devil of sorts that speeds away in cars and rides motorcycles like some sort hoodlum!

Two things which strike me as objectionable in the trailer we've seen: a young Kirk that thinks his middle name is "Siberius" instead of "Tiberius", a young Kirk that can jump from a speeding car and not suffer a scratch, and the cops.. what's with the cop?

Hey.. as long as it doesn't consider itself canon. It should be a lot of fun.

If it would've come out the original 12/08 this year, it is fairly obvious now it would've had no competition, ie Gran Torino and Marley and Me were the main draws this Holiday season....and they didn't make a huge haul like a lot of movies around that time of year.

Instead, it's got to deal with some other widely wanted to see movies (Up and Wolverine) around the world and the USA. I would rather see Star Trek 100x's more than anything else this summer....but I just think it's getting released at the wrong time. Say $125 million in USA and $175 million around the world, for total of $300 million.

To those who think if this movie will be cannon or not.

Is this a reboot?
Yes and no. Abrams and the rest of the staff have been playing it close to the vest, but it seems that Nero's time travel in the movie may have affected the timeline, introducing the canon discrepancies that some purists have noticed. Abrams does, however, state that the movie will tie up all canon questions and explain how they are brought in with the Trek lore we do know already.

Kirk's Middle name
Cop: What is your name?
Young Kirk: My name is James Tiberius Kirk!

I think you heard his middle name wrong

I'd say less than.

and it doesn't seem like it considers itself 'cannon' so much as a reimagining type thing.

225-250 million worldwide. It's not going to be as big as Paramount wants you to think it will be. J.J. is a good director and storyteller, so it may be a surprise hit.

I'm not a trek fan at all (never seen an episode in my life) but I do kinda want to see the movie only because the fact that J.J is involved and the trailers look pretty cool.

My prediction would be about 150 million in N.A and 300 - 350 worldwide. It will be a success but nothing record breaking.

This movie has alot of potential but will probably only do modestly at box office its to bad it does not have more of a blessing from the original cast.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bZKEhgieoc

$300 million is a pretty good estimate.

Star Trek just doesn't have the pull that it used to. Many people will catch it for the sake of a decent action film. What's left of the hardcore fans will see it for the sake of supporting their vice (myself included). However, there will be a very large population of movie goers who will opt for something far less entertaining just to avoid sitting through a Star Trek presentation.
