Default Some good calculations on attach rates

http://forums.highdefdigest.com/showthread.php?t=11160

This is a nice dissection of present numbers to figure attach rates based on the stat that 22% of PS3 owners use the console for BD playback:

Quote:
Attach Rates Exposed...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Reference for initial used numbers:
http://www.tvpredictions.com/bluray062007.htm

Reference for Percent of Playstation 3's used for video:
http://www.highdefdigest.com/...
Please note that in the above article that an executive consultant to
Paramount Home Entertainment calculates a PERCENTAGE of PS3's as actual
viable video utilized consoles as being relevant.

Another link for basic usage of console for video:
http://www.thediffusiongroup.com/The...-Uncertain.htm

Bluray/HDDVD sales last weeks:
http://www.nxtbook.com/nxtbooks/questex/hom070107/
(page 3)

Okay, so let's get down to business...

Total Blu-ray players on market: 1.5 million
Total Blu-ray standalone: 100,000
Total PS3's: 1.4 million
%PS3's used for Video Playback: 22%

Total HD-DVD players on Market: 300,000
Total HD-DVD Standalones: 150,000
Total Xbox Addons:150,000
%Xbox addon for video playback: 100%

If you take the 100,000 standalone blu-ray players and add it to the 22
percent of 1.4 million PS3s (308,000), you end up with 408,000 blu-ray total
players that are being used for video.

The ratio of total of blu-ray players used for video and hd-dvd used for video
is = 408,000/300,000, which is basically 4:3 or 1.33/1 basically.

If you take Since Inception Numbers of 59 percent blu ray to 41 percent
HD/DVD, this ratio is basically 1.439 to 1. So every there are basically 1.439
Blu-ray purchase(S) to every 1 of HD-DVD. If you take 1.439 and divide it by
1.33, you get 1.1. 1.1 represents the number of Blu-ray discs sold for every
1 of HD-DVD PER PLAYER – attach rate.

Playstation 3 has a higher attach rate since inception. Now, if you use just
last week's numbers: 70 percent to 30 percent: You end up with a ratio of
2.33:1. And then again dividing 2.33 by 1.33, you get 1.754... So this last
week, Blu-Ray Discs sold on average of 1.75 more per HD Disc per counted
person/player.

Looking at this data, only shows you that the true attach rate is really in
blu-ray's favor.
