Default BD/HD DVD attach rate

released by HD DVD promo group. guess what? I think it includes PS3 (although not stated) they are always annoying as they refused to count PS3 as player, but they count ps3 as player to calculate the attach rate.

This is not relevant.

HD-DVD is almost non-existent in some european countries.

There are almost 1,5 million PS3 in Europe alone. 0,6 attach rate means approximately 850 000 BR sold.

I am not sure Toshiba sold more than 200,000 HD-DVD standalone players accross Europe

Jesus christ, they just never stop......

What good is an attach-rate when the number of movies sold is much lower than Blu-ray.

In Denmark HD-DVD's from Universal and Paramount doesn't even have a danish cover and they are more expensive than Blu-ray because of low demand

The fact they're still spewing out this regurgitated rubbish shows how little they can boast about.

They are clearly including PS3s in the attach rate figures.

I thought PS3s didn't count in total player numbers? I wish they could make up their little minds over in HD-Dead land.

I've said it b4 and I'll say it again, what's better having 1 unit that sells 1 million discs per unit or 800,000 units that sells 3 discs per unit, yeah the attach rate is lower but I'm not about to side with the side with only 1 unit because the attach rate is higher :P

the only reason they mention attach rates is because they are afraid to mention real sales... you the thing that actually means more money!

Attach Rate?! Are they still trying to baffle with this BS. If they sell 10 players and 10 movies per player, they have a 100% attach rate. If Blu-ray sells 1000 players and sells 10 movies per player, who would you say sold more movies?

In the past couple weeks the HD-DUD camp has really been throwing out some nasty rumors and untrue facts and this whole sony thing about the CEO admitting defeat...what????...see how they can twist things around so badly...attach rate oh give me a break..just like it has been said we are killing them in movie sales so how is this reporting even remotely true...?!

They've been doing this since last fall. They refuse to count PS3 as a blu-ray player (for installed base in homes), but will always count it for attach rate

Including the PlayStation 3 in their attach rates definitely helps them skew the statistics so the numbers do not look as bad. If you own a HD DVD attachment for XBox 360 or a HD DVD player you are definitely using it for HD DVD movies. But, if you own a PlayStation 3 it does not necessarily mean you consume Blu-ray Discs. Including this in the Blu-ray attachment rate calculations makes HD DVD look like they have a better ratio than they really do.

It is purely a game of math skewed in their favor.

Well there have been 55,000 of the 360 add-ons so I'm predicting about another 30,000 of the Toshiba HD-DVD players. I have yet to see another HD-DVD player other than "that Toshiba one". In comparision there are two main Blu-ray players out here! The Sony one and the Samsung one. I don't think they're selling very well.....

It's pretty laughable, sad, and disgusting at the same time. They have two talking points left.

Ridiculously low priced players. (Note that I said priced, not price)
Silly attach rate "statistics"...

To quote Mark Twain "There are liars, damn liars, and then there are statistics!"

If anyone has seen the latest Apple Mac ad with the PR lady, this story will be even funnier.

I hope Tosh does not think about all of the 360's that died. The people that bought a add on, cant watch movies. That raises their atach rate.
Tosh news, 33,000 people were not able to watch or buy hd dvd movies cause their add on would not work. Our new atach rate is 20:1.
They can make up what ever news they want to. The people that buy into it are weak.

TO quote ICP, I think. Insain in the Membrain

I wonder if once Toshiba has a bunch more laptops out there that can play HD DVDs, they will do attach rate calculations by counting the PS3s, but not the laptops. Toshiba knows that lowering their attach rates won't be a problem, or they wouldn't be putting out laptops with those drives or even selling players for $98 (which are likely to have a little bit lower attach rates overall than $299 players).

The attach rate doesn't mean anything to the big studios. Just the sales of BD vs HD titles. The HDDVD guys have to find something to hold onto as they sink, so I think this thread should be renamed, "HD DVD Grasp at Straws rate"

It isn't news that the PS3 is absolutely exploding with sales in Europe since the price drop.

I'm thinking the HD-DVD camp wanted to take this opportunity to capitalize on spinning these numbers by including new PS3 owners in this poll.

God I hate HD-DVD.

What's great is the fact that they include the PS3's for attach rates. Here's why... I have a PS3 and a BDP-S1. Which means that I have lowered the attach rate for Blu-Ray. See I have 2 players, so technically, if I want to keep the "attach rate" up, I'd need to buy a movie for both Blu-Ray players. Isn't that cool?! Maybe I should start doing that... Cuz you know, I need multiple versions of the same movie on Blu-Ray.
