Lightbulb What is the speed of Blu-ray disk

Is it 104x or 32x. Mus be atleast double times faster than 16x DVD and comparatively faster than HD DVD.

The data transfer rate for 1x DVD is defined as about 11Mbps, 1x Blu-ray is defined as about 36Mbps, so 1x for Blu-ray is a bit faster than 3x DVD. The speed of Blu-ray Disc drives will most likely start out at 2-4x BD and they are targetting 8-12x in the future.

Isn't 1 x in DVD 1350 Kbps => 1,32 Mbps? (european notation, in US 1.32 i suppose)

Its a bit confusing actually.

1x DVD transfer rate is listed as 1350 kB/s (note the capital B for Byte) : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dvd
1x Blue Ray transfer rate is listed as 36 Mb/s (note the small b for bit) : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu_Ray

Therefore:
DVDs have a 1.32 MB/s transfer rate
Blu-Ray have a 4.5 MB/s transfer rate

Since DVD is up to 16x transfer, Blu-Ray wont have faster transfer rates until 8x players are designed, and they'll match DVD rates at 4x, assuming they follow typical 1x, 2x, 4x, 8x increases.

Hirai then began speaking about PlayStation 3... It features the CELL processor as previously reported, and also features a Blu-Ray Disk drive, running at 6x.
So...
