Default Ps3 Owners...

a quick show of hands to counteract (or corroborate) the comments made by WB's Nickerson on why we own a ps3.

here's a recap of what he said:

"Following what they describe as a strong period of sales and momentum for the format, HD DVD’s share of the market averaged 74% from January to May 2007.

Taking a swipe at the Blu-ray (player sales) stats that are bolstered by the number of PS3's sold, Steve Nickerson, senior vice president of high definition media at Warner Bros sates:

'These figures are especially important because the standalone player market is by far the biggest driver of movie sales in the long-term.'

'This is simply because those who buy a standalone player are interested solely in buying and watching movies and other video content, whereas those with HD drives built into games consoles are primarily interested in games.'"

also check out the HD Player poll for other relevant stats...

I'm definitely into the PS3 for both Movies and Games. I'm actually a little insulted that the guy thinks we can only have 1 interest per device.

Equally for both. Although, it's mostly been used for blu-ray, since the good games don't start coming out until this fall.

BD player. PS3 video games are of not much value to me since after 15 minutes of playing and my hands hurt. Four hours of playing with the 360 controller and my hands feel better than 15 minutes with the PS3 controller.

I have a Region B Panny player so I bought a Region A PS3 so I can play BDs from just about anywhere. Main other reason is to use it as a media hub. I use it equally as BD player and Media hub to stream pictures and videos from my PC.

When I originally bought my PS3 it was for gaming. After watching my first BD though I was hooked. To be honest, I should have voted for I ONLY care about the video games. Blu-ray is of no value to me ,as that was my state of mind at the time of purchase, but I do value blu-ray and gaming equally now so I voted for it.

I think the majority of PS3 owners bought it purely for gaming because most have not had the Blu-ray experience. I for one was introduced to the Blu-ray experience through my PS3. I'm not trying to say that PS3 owners aren't interested in Blu-ray, I am merely saying that Blu-ray is not the reason most will buy a PS3. Once they try it as a Blu-ray player though, they will be hooked, like me.

What a crazy assumption. I own over 1100 dvd's and i know there are a few people like me in that regard. Half the reason i bought a ps3 was for the blu-ray.

P.S. Oldboy & Seventh Seal on Blu-ray!!!! TARTAN!!! AWESOME!!

I play games alot as well as watch a ton of movies on it - My PS3 is my main Blu ray and DVD player - my other DVD players are in secondary rooms now. IMO to exclude the PS3 in their demographic is just their way of skewing what is really going on. BLU RAY ALL THE WAY!!!!!

You should have put because of the media functionality. (Play MP3's, etc...)

I bought mine only for the Blu-ray movies, but it gradually developed into 75% gaming.

My PS3
99% Blu-ray/DVD Player.
1% Video Games

This will change to 80% movies / 20% games once more video games come out that interest me.

It would be odd if someone here voted that way.

I don't understand why warner keeps making comments like this. I know of many people when they got their PS2, they used it as their primary DVD player. Hell, my girlfriend uses an xbox(not the 360) as her primary DVD player. I use my computer as one of my primary DVD players. There are many people who don't even bother to buy another stand alone player. Yes the stand alones are key for those who don't play games, like my father. There are too many people who have game consoles who aren't going to say "Hey, i want to watch movies but i don't want to watch it on my game console so i better spend a few hundred on another device that can do the same thing my game console can already do." Really, many of the people who actually buy the game consoles don't have the money to purchase another device. WTF is wrong with these people with their missinformation?!! What are chances that all those people who own the PS3 are using it or are going to use it as their new primary DVD player(now that it can upscale if you have an HDtv) and now their Blu-Ray player. Why would you need to purchase another player unless you want one for another room in the house/apartment?! For those of you who have a PS2 and then buy a PS3 now have an extra DVD player. Warner's comment just doesn't make sence. .........I hate spin.
