Very interesting. I don't think I would of even thought of that. Taking that into consideration, what other players would you suggest. PS3 though, great idea!

Go with the PS3. Top of the line visuals and you can upgrade software (if need be) and enjoy BD Live - if he would want to. And if the occassional game comes out he wants, he could enjoy that too. Even simple games from PSN get the most "casual" gamer interested. Something to think about...

Ive also got a Sony BDP-S350 player, and its very solid. I would recommend any Sony player, Pioneer, Oppo, Panasonic....Samsung and LG i'm a bit leary, I read more horror stories about them.
But when it comes down to it for me, the wi-fi media streaming just cannot be replaced. For the price, the PS3 just does so much more. ![]() edit: my opinion is from a movie watchers point of view. I rarely play games on my PS3. |

I just bought a Sony BDP-N460 and am not at all happy with the sound levels of the player. The voices are WAY too soft, and the sound effects are WAY too loud. I spent the whole time turning the volume up and down, depending on what was happening in the movie. I haven't found anywhere in the setup menu of my TV (Pioneer SD-533HD5) or the player to do anything about this.

I would agree with that ... The only thing that Sony cuts the corner on this model is: the remote did not have the open/close button and I often to use this feature a lot ... bump ... er ... Most previous Sony models have this feature on the remotes

The Dune Prime Blu-ray player has media streaming support of your own files on your computer. Music, pictures, and most video file types. I think you can also play files from a USB drive. It looks pretty neat. Kind of expensive though. It cost almost as much as my Oppo.

I have a review I wrote, and when I get enough posts I will post it.
You will not be sorry with this player, and it does everything they say it does. |

As for player recommendations I have a Sony and it works great. As for the PS3 it isn't worth it if you are not interested in using it for things other the playing movies. It has a far greater power consumption than a standard blu-ray player so using it just for movies will cost you more in the long run on your power bill. If your friend can wait they might want to see what prices the newly announced players will cost before making a purchase. The newer players should be faster and with more features than previous models. |

My sony 360 was an open box at BB. Works great. I was in BB yesterday and they had an open box Sony 560 for $229. Asked if they would take less and they would. Wanted me to give a price. Told him I'll be back today and will probably say $200 or less. No problems with open boxes.

I am playing the sound through my TV speakers. It is a Pioneer SD-533HD5 rear projection. The sound with my DVD player is fine...the only thing I changed was the Blu-Ray player and it is unacceptably loud with sound effects...and way too low with voices.

Its a no brainer .. Playstation 3 ! And may I add that apart from being a spectacular Bluray player and an incredible video game console, it also happens to be the only Bluray player on the market so far that will be upgradible to 3D complience should you decide to go full 3D in the future.
Seriously in that price range there should only be once choice on you're mind. The only other scenerio would be a Pioneer Elite, Denon, Oppo etc and that is well above you're budget. |

Ok try to search for dialog enhancer in your player settings and everything will work correctly.
