Very out that when I put in 8 1/2 my Blu-ray player is giving me the message "Disc cannot be read". I have the Samsung P1500, I know it's infamous for problems, but this is the first Blu-ray out of 100 I own that don't work at all. Anyone with a P1500 and 8 1/2 have this issue? I'm thinking it might be a bad disc.....I played Moon perfectly fine, I just don't understand what the issue could be.

I had 2.4 when I had this issue and updated to 2.5 which was the latest. I'm getting a replacement from Amazon. If the disc is not working, I'm buying a Ps3 slim.

It's the player I just tested it on my friends LG. I guess I'm getting a PS3 slim because I can not risk buying movies and not being able to play them.

I've played literally hundreds of Blu-Rays on my PS3 and never had a single issue.

Gotta love it.

Why does everybody bash the BD P1500. Its a perfectly good player. You may just have a sensitive disc. I've had the 1500 for over a year and has played ALL 119 titles I have ever thrown at it. It has even played discs the AMAZING PS3 refused to play.

I'm bashing it because I own one for over a year, and this isn't the first issue I've had with it.

This movie just came out, I wouldn't understand how a disc would be sensitive.

Doesnt really matter whether a disc has just come out or not, it can have problems. It may have a slight scratch on the surface. Some players are more sensitive to this than others.

Guess i'm extremely lucky then that my BD P1500 has never played me up. If I could be bothered to connect it up to internet then it would be just as good as the PS3 IMO.

I know its been a while since anyone has posted in this 8 1/2 forum but i have just watched the Argent Films UK Bluray of this marvelous film but the subtitles were so small and white they were a nightmare to read against the black and white picture. Does the criterion version have a similar problem or are they easier to read. If not i suppose i'll just have to learn Italian ...Grazie

Hi there,
I just bought the U.S. Region 'A' locked Criterion bluray yesterday!
The top image shows the Criterion bluray subtitles... and just for fun the bottom picture shows the subtitles from my old DVD (think its the US Image Entertainment DVD- can't remember, with small bright yellow subs).

US Criterion Blu-ray...

US Image Entertainment (?) DVD...

If you decide to get rid of your UK Bluray I may be interested in it...

Hope this helps- ciao!!

...just for reference, the above tv is 65"...and the DVD subtitles in bottom picture are a bright yellow- not washed out like in the picture (bad lighting conditions when I took the photo)

Is the Criterion still regarded as the best release of this film? So many years later and I never picked this one up.

I thought a 4k UHD would be inevitable, I even expected that this might be one of the first releases Criterion would pick, but I'm not sure anymore since Criterion doesn't seem to be digging back into their old catalogue for 4K upgrades yet (other than with Mulholland Drive, unless I missed another).

The 4K remaster in the Fellini set is great.

They've upgraded Mulholland Drive, Le Cercle Rouge, The Red Shoes, A Hard Days Night, and For All Mankind to 4K. Almost half of the 4K releases that they have done have been upgrades from past releases, so yes, they absolutely are digging into their old releases.
