Default What would you want from Criterion on Blu-ray

If/when Criterion decides to release on Blu-Ray, what would you like to see?

Criterion lost The Killer a long time ago, and is unlikely to ever be able to get it back

They're releasing Days of Heaven in October. They just did a brand new transfer for it, so that would be amazing!

Kurosawa films, This Is Spinal Tap, Chasing Amy. I already know this one is on Universal but should they hopefully someday go neutral I'd like to get the Criterion of Dazed and Confused. In the meantime I will watch it upconverted.

They being Criterion, we can guess with a high degree of accuracy that Seven Samurai, Seventh Seal, Brazil and Hidden Fortress will always get first crack at whatever new double, triple and/or quadruple-dip release excuse hits the studio...

Once past the preliminaries, however, the only Criterion on my A-list shelf is Bergman's "The Magic Flute", and there's one made for Blu-ray.

Kurosawa all the way. Seven Samurai first, followed by Yojimbo and Sanjuro.

Do the Right Thing. It is Universal though, so would Criterion be able to release it?

The Double life of Veronique (Kieslowski)

L'eclise (and just about any other Michelangelo Antonioni title)

The Spirit of the Beehive

Le Samourai (just so they could finally put a proper, non-color adjusted print)

Andrei Rublev (not a possibility)

Elevator to the Gallows....

etc,

Ciao,
Pro-B

Unfortunately, as already pointed out in another thread, Japan may probably want first say about where Kurosawa films get released on the cool formats first...
Even without the region-coding issue, it may still be more of a corporate issue.

(Sweden and Bergman, nnnnnot as much difficulty.)

Exactly, with the region code being the same, remember they made them reissue 7 Samurai because it was 0? (and strip that restoration documentary)

I had completely forgotten this was a Criterion release. It has to of been 10 -15 years since I've seen this. I haven't bought a DVD in 4 months but I may have to find this one.

With your avatar, I figured that might be your first choice.

Of course that (and Godzilla, and Miyazaki) was back in the days when Japan was one of the last countries to adopt DVD, and hadn't put out any of their classics yet--
And Toho was caught with their pants down when the idea of countries selling better versions of their three greatest film cultures before them was on their doorstep.

As Japan's already Blu-ray enabled (although without GZ, Miyazaki or Kurosawa yet), it might be easier getting Toho to the table and negotiating Kurosawa releases on both sides.
Even though Japan seems to be mostly using Blu for concerts and anime at the moment, while we're grinding out the 00's action-losers.
