First time on the forum and would greatly appreciate some help.
Question 1: I have a Sony str-k650p Audio reciver. I want to know if i am getting 5.1? I have a ps3. I have 5 speakers and subwoofer. With optical cable hooked up. The reciever says it gets Dolby prolgic 2 and dolbydigital/DTS. The optiical is Video 2 which says Dolby digital 3/2.1 And when i go to video 1 it says Dolby DTS but the optical wont go to video1? PLease help? Question 2: I have a Samsung hpt4254 42' plasma 720p. Just bought. Is my Monster cable 600 series hdmi cord suffiecient enough for the best picture? Question 3:What is Tpb/Cb Pr/Cr Super-white option on the ps3 do? I have mine off. Thank you so much for your info. I know i am a noob, but i need help thanks. ![]() |

You need to make sure that the audio output setting in the ps3 for the optical output is set to bitstream, not pcm. Then in the movie select the dolby or dts track instead of pcm, if it is present. You will not get 5.1 audio through optical with pcm tracks, only dolby or dts bitstream.
If you can still take back the monster cable for refund, do so. Pick up a $10 hdmi cable online. It's a digital signal. Value cables work equally as well as overpriced Monster cables. Don't worry about Tpb/Cb Pr/Cr - the best image seems to be setting the video output to rgb & there's a second setting in there somewhere to set "full rgb" which gives you darker blacks. So when the video is set to rgb, the pb/pr/... setting doesn't mean anything. |

well when you switch from video1 to video 2 your switching inputs so you need a 2nd optic for that video/audio port.
Inputs are for diffrent electronic, such as video 1 DVR, video 2 xbox, video 3 wiiiii, video 4 bd. & each video needs it own independent audio & video feed. If your talking about "video" in the reciever you do not swicth around to diffrent inputs to get diffrent audio's. The inputs on reciever are dvd, cd, DVR, stereo & 1 or 2 auxiliaries. Sometimes you have to do some programing to the reciever to tell it that this optic port is for the dvd & this optic port is for the cd player & so on. & it is normal for the opening parts, bonus & menu to be only 2.1 of a DVD or BD & then the movie is 5.1 If you got the manuel open it up the try resetting it up. DTS displayed could be just defalt when nothing is send to the reciever (normal). Mine says DTS PCM THX as defalt when nothing is being sent to the reciever. 2) your fine 3) leave them off & it should be in the manuel to tell you what they do. |

I have a question now!!! LOL...how do you get the PS3 to bitstream? I go into sound settings >optical> and the PCM is grayed out...i cannot uncheck it. I watched 300 last night and could not get it to go to DD5.1...it stayed on PCM (44khz i think).

Ok i set it to bitstream on the ps3 which is great i figured that out. Thats under bd settings. I only have one optical output and when i plug it in. It goes to video 2 only? So if i have it on bitstream and it says dolby digital on the monitor then i have 5.1?

If you have an older non-HDMI receiver, your audio settings on the PS3 should be set to Optical. That would cover it. The PS3 would now how to pass DTS/DD and stereo audio, like CDs. To listen to DTS/DD using that setup with a BD disc, you have to CHOOSE DTS/DD from the BD disc's audio menu. fuad |
