Warner Bros THX 1138 (1971) (The George Lucas Director's Cut)

Since no one else has started a thread, I'll make one.
It's a release by Warner so it'll very likely be region free.

I already have the two disc DVD, very excited for this.

* Commentary with George Lucas and Walter Murch
* Theater of Noise (Sound Effects Only Track)
* Master Sessions with Walter Murch
* A Legacy of Filmmakers: The Early Years of American Zoetrope
* Artifact from the Future: The Making of THX 1138
* Electronic Labyrinth THX 1138 4EB
* BALD
* Theatrical and re-release trailers

Looks like the same features from the 2 Disc DVD release.

I have actually never seen this movie, not sure why the premise seems right up my ally. Guess I will get to watch it for the first time in all the glory of HD.

still have my VHS of the "original" movie.
shame that the "original" film will never appear on blu.
or dvd for that matter.
more revisionism from the master of that art--George Lucas.

This is the director's cut isn't it?

Or is there lost footage I've never heard about?

Lucas did the same revisionist crap on this film that he did on SW when it first came to dvd.
sure, it is the "director's cut", but not the original theatrical presentation.
he made digital changes, etc. etc. to the "original" film.
once again, he attempted to make it "better" by making all sorts of changes.
unlike SW which is available on dvd in it's "original" form, this film never even got that.
the only way to see the "original" movie is to get the VHS tape that was issued before he created his "new" so-called "final" version.

Wow I am surprised it took four. I thought it would have been the second one.

Judging by your collection, btw I'm not saying you have a crappy taste, it doesn't look like it'll be your thing.
There's nothing entertaining about this movie, in fact it's a very dreadful movie, I see it as an interesting movie, I'm very impressed what Lucas achieved with very little resources and budget.
Of course I could be wrong, you never know.

I love dystopian stories. Yes my collection has a lot of movies that would be considered crappy by many (I know you didnt say that but I am), I'm also a fan of campy, cheese, b-grade, entertaining and intellectual films as well.

I know it is not known as an exciting movie but government control over a sedated society is a story I can watch over and over again told in as many different ways as possible.

I was just about recommending Bay's The Island to you instead.
I kid I kid.

Then I'll change my initial post, get it day one, this is Lucas' most fascinating movie in my opinion. I wish Lucas had gone this direction after the first Star Wars trilogy, Lucas hasn't reached his potential judging by this movie.

I think he certainly reached his commercial potential. But you just can't please everybody - he goes and makes the kind of movie that people seem to like (and at least in the late 70s/early 80s his SW movies were the most popular of all) and then he gets blamed for NOT making more movies like the one that was his worst commercial failure.

Can't please everybody.

You also seem to love horror/slasher movies as well. Now that is crappy taste.

Nothing wrong with your collection mate, it's good to have a wide range of tastes. I also have an broad tastes but two i cannot get one with is Westerns and Torture-porn movies like Saw and Hostel.

Enjoying B-movies keeps you grounded and stops you becoming pretentious and disappearing up your own ass

This is currently $10 on amazon.ca. Having never seen the flick before (any version) would people recommend this as a blind buy?

I don't think this movie is a good blindbuy, I think this movie can be categorized as an "acquired taste".

Rent it to be safe.

If you like hardcore sci-fi, yeah, it's worth a blind buy. I've always felt that this film is somewhat equal to Kubrick's 2001.

Can't wait to have a back to back with those two films when this hits in September...

Question THX 1138 not working on certain players?

Just received my pre-order from movietyme.com of THX 1138 (they usually send them a week or so before release date ). Just tried it on my multi-region Panasonic DMP-BD60 and it doesn't work! Tested the same disc (its region free by the way) on my PS3 and my mum's Samsung BD player and it works fine. I installed the latest firmware 2.5 on my Panasonic the other day, so could it be anything to do with that? Has anyone else who is fortunate to get an early copy of this disc had any problems?
