Default The Best Hard Drive Brand For PS3

I was just wondering what brand of hard drives you guys have had the best experience with? I want to replace my 60 gig PS3 HDD with something bigger and while browsing on newegg, I found Seagate, Hitachi, Western Digital and Samsung.

Also Toshiba, but thats out of the question.

Sorry if there's already a thread about this but I did a quick search and found none.

Thanks in advance guys.

The internal HDD is already a Seagate so that is compatible. I put in a Western Digital in mine with no issues. I do not recommend Hitachi as I have found their drives to be very unreliable, having a couple fail on me already. The SamSung drives do not seem that reliable to me also, but not as bad as the Hitachis.

Western Digital USED to be the undisputed king in the hard drive world, but the scenery as changed a lot in the last 5 years. Right now, I thing Seagate and Hitachi are the best. They're both about the same price, so you could do a coin toss to decide.

yeah but it's 4200RPM and i don't think your supposed to run the PS3 with that speed. Correct me if i'm wrong, im not sure.

Lower RPM isn't bad except for lower speeds There's a problem with high RPM hdds because they generate more heat, but other than that there's no limitation.

They are always moving forward though so it's possible that a 7200rpm will be just as cool as an older 5400rpm etc. Just check the specs of what is in the PS3 drive and then your new purchase if your concerned.

I'm going to get the Seagate 250GB if I can find the retail package in Canada. Not sure if hasn't shipped yet or our retailers are just retards up here.

The retail verson of Seagate drives (vs the OEM that many on-line places sell) come with a 5 year warranty. Nobody else does that.

iirc, hitachi purchased IBM's hard drive line. i still have an ibm 30 gb deskstar that has survived brown outs, power surges, moving and various other things. during it's lifespan, it has outlasted three seagates and one WD. i have picked up another hitachi since and haven't been happier. my rec would be to get a hitachi but only if it is the deskstar line.

I'd go for a Seagate. I don't know - to me they're like the Sony of HDD's. I always trust them to come out with quality products.
