The Real Deal on Blu-ray

Okay, so here's the thing. There is a certain member off another message board/forum who is totally pro HD-DVD and totally anti Blu-ray. Here's a quote from one of his recent posts regarding why he thinks HD-DVD is better...

"The hardware is less expensive, the media is less expensive, the burners are less expensive, the blanks are less expensive, the technology is backwards compatible with DVD (dual disks are out now), with VC-1 it looks far better than MPEG-2/4 on BR, and most of the BR technological superiority is all hot air, and the real-world BR movies actually use LOWER specs than HD-DVD. HD-DVD is also region-free, meaning I can play imports on my US player with no hardware mods, without worrying about the region-coded BS of Blu-ray."

Is any of the above true (I don't think so...)? Explain.

hd-dvd is not backwards compatible with dvd no matter if it has the dvd combo or not if it comes with a dvd then it can play on a normal dvd player but otherwise it wont be able to and so hd-dvds can only play on a hd-dvd player plus with blu-ray it can hold more information then hd-dvd

the hardware cost is about the same, only thing is toshiba make a lower end model that output crap video to make it cheap.
if the media is cheaper, why are they selling more expensive than blu media ?
please show us a working hd-dvd burner.
the technology is not backward compatible for both blu and hd as we are using blue laser instead of dvd red laser.
did he watch disney potc avc compression before ? do he know how much bitrate is needed to achieve that result ?

I havent researched it myself but from what these guys say HD-DVD burners are pretty much nonexistant and the price of blanks is in favour of BD.

dvd has region codes, I believe. hddvd fan boy Blah, that is all. They can't win so they try and spin everything!!! They are pathetic.

Pretty sure the only way to upscale DVD's is via HDMI so anything else isn't really all that important.

I just bought four BD-R 25's at Fry's for $7.99 ea. for use with my Blu-ray burner. So much for being expensive.

I haven't even seen an HD-DUD-R on the shelf, or even a burner for that matter.
