Default Nov. 23 Buy-a-thon...Most Important yet?

Now I know the Oct. 16th Buy-a-thon is to combat the totals for Transformers but could there be a more important Buy-a-thon on Nov. 23rd? Given that the 23rd (Black Friday) is typically the biggest retail shopping day of the year, shouldn't that be the most tactical Buy-a-thon? Plus by Oct. 16th. there won't be a whole lot I want to buy where as on the 23rd the choices are a lot more plentiful. Also for people on a budget if I have to consolidate a Buy-a-thon I want it to be on a day that will do the most damage as well as give more a wider pallet of choices. Well what do you guys think? Right now I've got myself down for:

Ocean's Box Set
Die Hard
Spiderman Box Set.
Cars
Close Encounters

Make it an official buy-A-thon thread and that should get it off the ground.

I think Black Friday will be paramount to the success of any format. Should be interesting to see if there are any deals worthy of standing in line at 6am to get.

I don't go near any stores on Black Friday. Too many shoppers. I don't like waiting in line for an hour to check out.

I think people here would have much less of a chance of affecting the numbers the week of the biggest shopping day of the year than some of these other weeks. Kind of the small fish in a big pond thing.

O.k. I don't get this. The purpose of every Buy-a-thon is to make wave regardless of how big the fish. This is the day that the studios that are on the fence will be looking at. Black Friday is a pain to deal with all the shoppers but it is for a cause. I do have to admit that before my daughter was born my wife and I would get up a 4:00 am and do Black Friday every year. Plus I got her approval this year as well . It's also not just about the deals. The deals help but I 'm saying that if your'e going to buy it anyway try and get it on that day. So let's make the biggest shopping day the biggest Blu-ray day...Let's change it from Black Friday to Blu-Friday.

Eh....whats with all of these "Buy-a-thons". I try and buy movies whenever i have money that i deem available for Blu. I will probably even buy the Die Hard set the Tuesday prior to Black Friday. I am an "I need it now" person. And as sweet as it would be for us to have one random 80-20 week in the Nielson Ratings, Id rather have consistant 70-30s.

I think it would be a message to retailers to make sure they have BluRay in stock. 5 or 6 titles (as they usually only have a few of each on the shelves) being sold out before 8am would be an eye opener I think.

in the end, if you want to try a buy-a-thon, then try it. all that really matters is sales. whatever it takes to get us out there buying movies, and there fore pushing up the numbers for the entire quarter or christmas season, do it. some of us just buy on a regular basis. but if one of these events get us to pick up a few more, no matter what day it is, then the sales numbers going up is a good thing.

Black Friday; let's see, wake up at the butt-crack of dawn to hunt for a parking space at the mall then have to deal with crazy ass people looking for a bargain then have to wait in a long ass slow moving line to pay for whatever I'm getting. No thank you. I did it once and decided never again. I'm not knocking the logic behind your idea OP and it's a pretty good idea logic wise, but I know for me, I can't do it for the reasons I just said.

Black Friday isn't for everyone, but this isn't your average buy-a-thon either. Even if you want to wait until around noon or so the line aren't that bad. Now a lot of the door buster deals are gone by then but it still adds to the totals on that day. We still have two months to go so, think about it and sign up if your willing to participate. Also don't forget that if you were thinking about getting a new player or knew someone who is interested in getting a new player, this would be the day to do it.

It is my belief that Black Friday could be used more as a day to ensure that J6P understands the current situation of the format war to make a better decision if they want to jump into high def for the holiday season. Think about it. Hundreds of people waiting in line for the stores to open. We have a captive audience. Handing out pamphlets and the like could easily convince a few people to go blu. But even if you just enlighten one person, it would be worth the effort.

I understand that some of the less-hardcore members may not want to do this, but I know the Blu-bloods would. We're still a long ways away, but I'm hoping to get people to do something big on Black Friday. We'll see how people feel about it as we get closer.
