They used to bother me, but like you said, it's very easy to get the residue off, so now I don't care. What methods are you using? I can personally vouch that a q-tip and a dab of rubbing alcohol works every time. It never ruins the cardboard or the packaging.

I like to tear them off and leaving the papery backing just to wage my quiet war against packaging OCD

You can NOT use any kind of liquid substance on your Dances With Wolves slipcover. It will ruin the velvety texture.

I was more concerned with the ink rubbing off just like Jonah Hex did too... Best Buy stickers are the worst, they don't peel off of the Dances slip at all. And Goo Gone tends to leave a greasy residue on certain slipcover types.
