Default Is PiP that important?

I fear it's just technological competition and noone really cares what HD DVD or Blu-ray can achieve, we just want nice quality, some interviews, making of and trailers ... the rest ???

Is PiP that important...No. I don't care about what some millionaire thinks about this movie. Get that crap off of my screen and let me watch the movie. Half the fun of movies is the suspended disbelief. I want to believe that a man dresses up in a cape and cowl or that a man can fly and stop bullets. I don't need something popping up on my screen showing me how that really didn't happen. Let me enjoy the picture and figure it out later.

What Hussla said. I can't stand if someone gets in the way of the tv, or talks during the show. PIP does just that.

Now, if I was watching some news event being covered on multiple channels, then PIP would help me keep track of a second station and switch if I like the camera angle better.

Most people do not go back to rewatch the movie with silly little pop up facts and commentary. That is generally the fanatical act of "Star Wars" fans and their ilk.

When my HDTV was still on analog only, it was nice using the dual NTSC tuner to get "side by side" PIP. Been about 3 years since using it and I can't say I have missed it much.

It's important to me. I will use it all the time, if available.

PiP is a gimmick thats how I see it.

Go watch Ghostbusters DVD with the silhouettes of the Harold Ramis and the other two guys (forget the director and producers name) it's a primitive form of DVD PiP, it's cool, funky and interesting for about 1 min then you just want to watch the movie. I prefer just listening to the directors commentary, its far less instrusive and distracting.

The only people who care about PiP, internet connectivity, java games etc are those with no or little life. Wake up there's a big wide world out there!

I just want to watch my damn move in the best possible quality and enjoy it, then maybe go get dressed and head down to one of the local nightclubs, get drunk and find a girl, then maybe bring her to mine one night and watch movies in the best possible HD quality on my HD projector, without some arrogant hack of a director (ie Brett Ratner) face stuck on my screen talking about what he ate the day he filmed the scene!

PiP is not the messiah!

Its a feature that is not going to be often used but when Blu has so much more space then why not have it, plus it demos great. I personally will probably never use it unless someone asks "is there a big difference with Blu ray" obviously they are comparing it to DVD so besides the unbeatable PQ and AQ you show off the Pop up menu and if it were available PiP would be another added wooooo and ahhhhhhh. Definately important and needed.

Thanks for your narrow-minded assessment of people that enjoy the trivia tracks. That's clearly why Pop-Up Videos on VH1 was so successful when it first came. I've seen many of the Star Trek movies several times, but I wouldn't really consider myself a "Trekkie" (don't go to Trek conventions, don't own a set of "Spock" ears, and never debated whether Kirk is better than Picard) and yet if I pop in one of the Star Trek DVD's I somehow manage to enjoy on occassion turning on the trivia track subtitles. Likewise, for The Abyss and other movies. I suppose that all just make me a fanatic (actually since "fan" is just a shortening of fanatic, and I consider myself a Star Trek fan, I suppose I am a fanatic).

As a fanatic, I also enjoy watching deleted scenes, extended cuts, and making of features (except for the EPK garbage). If I had to decide between a 2-disc version for $35 or a single disc version for $25 of a movie, I would always pick the 2-disc version.

PiP? No.
When watching a movie, I want nothing in the way of - the movie!

Some commentary I can watch *AFTER* the movie... if I have the urge.

YMMV.

You are taking my tongue in cheek comment a little too seriously.

Personally, I don't really care. I used to buy the special editons on Laser Discs and pay $100 or more for them. 1) Because it was special and nobody else had it, especially VHS. 2) If it was a movie I really liked, I wanted to have all of the information I could about the movie. Alot of those were few and far between. When DVDs started to come out, many of them didn't have any special features, maybe just a trailer and I had already seen those anyway. Then the Two Disc Special Edition DVDs started coming out. And I would buy some of them, just to have the special featrues. But, a few years ago, if given the choice of a standard edition and a two disc edition, I would always pick the cheaper one. I realized after many purchases, I don't watch them, so why spend the money? But, with the HD DVDs and Blu-ray Discs, there is no choice. I would like BDs to have it so that the people who want to see that type of stuff can see it, but do not sacrafice the PQ and AQ for it.

PIP is important to me because Warner has said they are waiting for PIP functionality in Blu-ray BEFORE they will release Batman Begins and The Matrix. I want those films, so I guess I need PIP.

But, in the long run, PIP is not as important as BD-LIVE. Not even close.

I am much more interested in the highest possible PQ and AQ when watching the movie. The extras on the disc are for the other stuff.
