Default Panasonic 1080P plasma unable to accept 1080P??

I know a few of you guys have the newer Panasonic 1080P Plasma's. I just read an article from the AVGuide, the link is here:

http://avguide.com/the-perfect-vision/

The reviewer of their Perfect Vision online mag on page 51 states as a negative that the Panasonic TH-58PX750U, which is their top of the line tv, cannot accept a 1080P signal. I know it has a 1080P resolution, but what is the point of that if it cannot accept a 1080P signal, like a BD? Obviously, it can accept a 1080i signal and I assume upconvert it, but that is not the point of the technology.
I honestly have been looking at the slightly smaller 50" Panny and nowhere does it say this on any of their info sheets. Can owners please confirm or deny this, as my focus will shift to Pioneer only, as I know their 1080P's can accept a 1080P signal.

Some earlier HDTVs have 1080p panels (IE the plasma or LCD panels) but not 1080p video processing boards. This is where the problem lies. So the panels can handle it but not the boards. And you can't switch the boards either.

So go with a true 1080p HDTV instead. Better yet, go with a 1080p24 one.

I have the 50" Panny and it accepts 1080p from my bluray player and my PS3 just fine.

It can display any signal. But it says that it does not accept the 1080P signal. I think your Panny is accepting a 1080I signal and I assume upconverting it to 1080P. What my question is; Is it the same through upconversion as it is if it was to accept the raw 1080P signal?

I am pretty sure that I my Panasonic accepts a 1080p/60i signal. That is what I get when I set my BDP-S300 to auto output.

No it is accepting a 1080P signal. The PS3 only outputs the maximum signal that the TV it is playing through can accept, and it is pumping out 1080p.

It's not like I bought the set without knowing if it was "true" 1080p or not.

<edit> Just for clarification, my set is the TH-50PZ700U.

1080p24 is not too useful unless the TV can refresh at a multiple of 24Hz. Only Pioneer can do that so far among plamas.

I have a 42"" panasonic plasma with a native res of 1024x768. My PS3 outputs a 1080p signal which my TV accepts then interlaces the signal to display at 1080i. so when i press the INFO button on my remote, the tv says 1080p but the picture being displayed is not 1080p.

You mean scales to 1024x768p. Your plasma is a progressive device, no interlacing should be necessary.
