4K(2160P) Blu-ray movies

I have noticed that there are webpages here on Blu-ray.com for upcoming BD releases of some movies, that will have the 4K resolution which is 2160P > https://www.blu-ray.com/search/?quic...leasetimestamp. I noticed on amazon.com that there are webpages for these upcoming BD releases with 4K(2160P), that are already listed on there now as well. Also, i found this bit of information on amazon.com on all the webpages for the upcoming 4K(2160P) movies on BD > http://www.amazon.com/s?url=search-a...qid=1366504323 .....

So from what it sounds like it says that i have highlighted above, people will be able to use their current hdtv's and blu-ray players. Which is a good thing for people that might of recently bought 1080P hdtvs and 1080P blu-ray players. Oh, and i almost forgot to mention this, that those BD releases i posted a link to on amazon.com and from here on blu-ray.com, have a May 14th 2013 BD release date. Maybe that is going to be when hdtv's and blu-ray players with the next hdtv resolution number after 1080P will be released, meaning 2160P .

You are referring to 4K upconversion. Like 480p to 1080p conversion 1080p to 2160p conversion will leave a lot to be desired.

Well you know, id take a 1080p - 2160p upconversion over a 480p - 1080p upconversion.

Yes, if its upconversion from 1080P to 2160P in the next Blu-ray format, like the Blu-ray movies shown in those links i posted above. I'm sure there will be more movies with that capability sometime soon.

There's already several 4K upconversion players out there and with 4K displays shipping a few weeks it may be the way for people to start enjoying pseudo 4K with their present BDs.

No, I mean 4K upconversion players. There are no native 4K players yet. It's mainly because there is no 4K content as of yet.

Aren't your numbers a little wrong? 4K = 4*1080 = 4320p

2160p would be 2K...

No. 2K or 4K refer to the approximate horizontal resolutions. 2K = 2048 pixels, 4K = 4096 pixels...
1080p refers to the vertical resolution.

Umm so the reason 2160p is 4 times as much as 1080 is becase A tvs pixel resolution is mesured in vertical lines, so a 16:9 tv is 1920p*1080p and a uhd would be 3840p*2160p, so yes the tv is 4k not 2k. So dont tell people to check there math before you check your own.,

What does UHDTV refer to? If it's the 4K TVs that are on the market, then I don't understand those numbers.

Ultra HDTV which is 3840x2160p. Digital Cinema uses 4096x2160.

What all of this means is that you are still getting 1080P and they are just using the 4K master as the source. Nothing more! These are in no way, shape or form 4K movies and the resolution is absolutely not 2160P.

It's all marketing so they can get people to re-buy titles they already have at a very marginal improvement in picture quality. Don't fall for it people!!

Once 4K TVs are affordable and there is a standard 4K format for home movies then these discs will be crap. In the end they are still 1080P and the only thing that a 4K player and TVs can do with them is to upconvert the picture, the same way your current blu ray players and 1080P TVs do for DVDs.

Yeah that does sound like a major scam, the more that i think about it now ! . I know now not to fall for it because its like a bad gimmick .

It really is. Its simply companies looking for the next revenue stream since blu-ray has leveled off and prices are low enough that profit margins are razor thin. I get the whole thing - 3D was the same thing...an attempt to resell you a film. Again.

With reasonably decent gear and good blu-ray transfers, you aint getting much better video/audio quality for home. Just isnt happening. Maybe someone with a 50 foot screen that they sit 3 feet away from might benefit.

For me, blu-ray is the pinnacle of home video and Im not buying gear and movies yet again. Im done. They can try to pimp it any way they like. The phrase "diminishing returns" comes into play here.

4K = YAWN

Surely its a good thing when it comes to films like Ghostbusters though where the original BD release wasn't quite as good as it could have been, this brand new 4k remaster could correct all the issues from the original BD release.
