Default Lions Gate goes all out - 24/48 7.1 PCM and profile 1.1 PIP on "War" 01.01.08

http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/sh...r_Blu-ray/1164

Quote:
War's "Behind the Scenes FX Bonus" track, which will make full use of the secondary video decoding capabilities of Profile 1.1-compliant Blu-ray hardware as it guides viewers through the intricacies of the film's special effects.

With 'War,' Lionsgate is now the second Blu-ray studio to announce a Profile 1.1-compatible Blu-ray title. (Late last month, Fox confirmed plans to issue 'Sunshine' as its first Profile 1.1-compatible Blu-ray title on January 8.)

In addition to the PIP content on 'War,' other Blu-ray exclusives include the BD-Java-enhanced interactive game "Yakuza Fighter," a "Blu-Line Slider" interface that allows for enhanced scene access, a custom bookmarking function, and what Lionsgate is calling "dynamic resizing" menu navigation.

The Blu-ray edition of 'War' will also carry over all of the standard DVD's supplements, including two audio commentaries with director Philip Atwell and co-screenwriters Lee Anthony Smith & Gregory J. Bradley, a "War Chest" mode that allows for bonus making-of vignettes to be unlocked via seamless branching, a "War Zone" subtitle fact track, "Scoring 'War'" featurette, deleted scenes, a gag reel and the film's original theatrical trailer.

As for tech specs, the Blu-ray will boast 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video, along with a full-blown uncompressed PCM 7.1 Surround track (at 48kHz/24-bit) and subtitles in both English and Spanish.
Sweet mercy!

Wow, pretty sweet. Is the movie as awful as I heard? Is this the first 1.1 title? I don't keep up with that stuff, since I really have little interest in it. Might give us an idea of when to expect that PS3 update though.

Nice specs, I'm looking forward to seeing this movie.

By the way, this definitely prooves that Lionsgate are planing to go neutral

It wasn't the greastest movie, but it wasn't the worst either. I remember when I watched in in theaters I came out telling myself if it came out in hi-def i would buy it. Lots of butt kicking and stuff blowin up. Thats my kind of thing though. The story is just average. The same type of storyline as most other Jet Li and Jason Stratham movies. If you like these two actors, it is a must buy.

Those are some pretty impressive specs for a movie. Will have to see how this one does when it comes out.

I am confused about Jet Li. I thought Jet Li announced retirement with his movie "Fearless". Then I heard he was retiring from "period" films. Anyone know what the scoop is on that?

Was this filmed before his plans for retirement? I am a Jet Li fan, I just wish I knew what was going on here.

While 24-bit 7.1 audio is nice, I think High-Def Digest might have just been doing more copying-and-pasting of specs. They seem to have been slapping that 24-bit spec on anything that's going to have lossless audio for some reason. Their HD DVD reviews of Talk to Me and I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry say they are both 24-bit TrueHD tracks. I'm gonna have to call B.S. on that. Also, has anyone confirmed that the Kubrick Collection has 24-bit PCM on every title as their reviews also state? I haven't had the opportunity to hear one of those titles yet.

They have been wrong about specs before (i.e. the bit depth on Surf's Up and Ghost Rider TrueHD tracks). But, here's to hoping that BD has it's first 24-bit 7.1 audio track (~9.2Mbps). Suh-weet! (Though I have my own reservations about 7.1 standards)

why no 7.1 for any of the summer blockbusters(spiderman, pirates 3, transformers, die hard)? this is 2007, War has 7.1 and all big action movies don't . i just don't understand
