Seriously, I was talking to a guy at Best Buy and he told me about 50% of all HD-DVD and Blu-Ray players purchased by men are usually returned by the guy the next day with the story of how the GF/wife made him bring it back. The other day at Circuit City a wife (she had a ring) got mad at her husband for spending 1500 on a new TV.....she even said out load, "What retard spends $1500.00 on a TV"? Why do so many women get upset over their men buying gadgets yet they go out and buy a $100 dress that cost maybe 15 bucks to make?

Guess she would be a little more upset if he bought a a $2700 projector, new $1000 receiver, and a $444 panny bd30.

exactly. they control what we want the most, so many guys give up control of everything else so its not taken away. what I did was showed her the credit card statement and told her that i'm going to spend the same amount on my ht as she'd spent on clothes, shoes, hair styles, going out with friends etc. I paid for my whole setup including bds in 2 years, for the same as what she spent in 1 year. a side affect has been that she now spends less because she sees what awesome stuff you can get when you don't spend $20 a day on lunch, buy a pair of shoes and matching purse every week, etc etc.
and any guy who can't convince his woman to keep the bd player is an idiot anyway. its probably mostly hd dvd fans that return them. hell my wife even likes to check our folding@home standings and asks ''is this movie on blu ray? I want to get it.'' besides, if she can hold out on you for any reason you must not be doing something right to begin with. which may be why she's mad at you in the first place. god i'm sexist. I think if my GF was like that, there would be some major arguments going on. After all, I spend a lot on stuff I like, electronics, and BD's and gaming, and she spends several hundred dollars on clothes she "absolutely needs". She has much right to complain/control me on that as I do on her crazy clothes sprees, which take many days to finish.

It's a JOKE. Jeez, everything does not have to be so serious.
Ok, so no one gets their fruit of the looms bent up, if you check out my signiture, I have a $3700.00 TV. I am more than happily married and it's all things in moderation. If you make $7.00 an hour and scrape by financially, you don't need a $1500 TV. |

This type of situation is very simple. You guys must draw th line in the sand upfront. My old lady knows there are a few things that are not negotiable:
Fishing Hunting A/V I know there are some things she has/does that are not negotiable either. That being said, you have to be reasonable about it. She knows the stuff that is not negotiable, but at the same time I don't abuse it by going nuts in those specific areas either. She does the same. At the end of the day, it's not about ***** or some ridiculous game. It's about mutual respect for each other's passions and idiosyncracies. If someone is asking you to change who you are (i.e. not "allowing" you to buy the A/V stuff that makes you happy, within reason of course), then I would suggest having a "sitdown" and revisiting the entire relationship because that's a harbinger of trouble ahead... I think it's not so much the spending itself, as it's the big one-time amounts. They're unable to see that when you buy a TV it'll usually last at least 5 years, so the actual cost is very low. Even a $3600 TV at 3 years is 1200 a year, 100 a month - that's far less than she'll be spending on her things
![]() A different matter is that if you use a shared account, depending on income, you might need to "borrow" money from her share temporarily to be able to afford that $3600 TV. In that case it's a very good idea to discuss it first, as then you'll be using her money as well. |

Sometimes we just buy things out of wants when the money can be better spent on things we need. Most people cannot afford a lot of luxuries and we (as Men) get caught up in buying stuff we can do without or put off for a while. Spending cash or using credit when you really shouldn't is the same evil.
And ultimately, if we gave our wives more attention instead of spending an entire Sunday watching football, got off our lazy asses to help around the house and watch the kids so she had some time for herself, maybe - just maybe - she'd let you blow some cash on some electronics. Because we've then earned some points with her to do so. |
