Default Next Spielberg Film on Blu-ray?

I know. I know. Everyone wants the classics (Jaws, Indy, etc), but after reading a thread on how the general public knows very little about HD movies and Blu-ray, I think I've come up with the next big title that should be released on Blu-ray.

The Color Purple.

Here's why. It's Warner Brothers. They go exclusive and announce one of their first Blu-ray exclusive titles will be The Color Purple.

Oprah gave a performance worthy of an Academy Award, though the film took none despite 11 nominations.

Oprah Winfrey is the high priestess of our pop culture. Get her talking about this movie and Blu-ray and you've got a ton of exposure.

Any insiders think this would work?

I'm still waiting for Saving Private Ryan to come to blu! He has no idea what he's missing out on. Just imagine all the action scenes in picture quality and lossless audio. Seems like a dream come true!

Around here though, one could also look at it as:
Quit F*cking Trolling

...thought that is certainly not the case with his post.

While I would love this film on Blu and buy it in a heartbeat, don't expect great PQ out of it (awesome AQ I'm sure)... don't forget he filmed most of it on 1940's type film which is extremely grainy so that it would look like it was filmed in the 1940's.

I'm sure it'll be very high quality grain hehe. And that won't stop me from buying it! I used the DTS DVD version to show off my surround sound system for years.

Well Oprah has already done blu-ray a disservice by bragging about her "awesome copy" of Planet Earth she has on HDDUD on her show....I would bet that is why it is still out selling blu in that title.

I want Poltergiest soooo bad.....

I deliberately haven't seen it for years, wanted it on DVD forever, but refused to buy the dreadful release that Warner gave it (think it was Warner?)

I want a remastered clean copy with awesome PQ & AQ

and i want it... NOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWW

See. Exactly. You may have hit on the reason that PE-HD DVD outsells the BD version.

This wasn't about what would be the most popular titles, but what would help adoption the most. Imagine Oprah explaining that Blu-ray has 5 of 7 major studios and it's the only format to see her in 1080p. Plus, it would be another Spielberg release on Blu.

For those that don't think it would look good, I doubt that's the case. Movies such as Close Encounters looked great. It's not the same as movies shot with HD digital cameras, but the picture quality can still be outstanding if proper care is taken.

I didn't even know that, but that doesn't surprise me though, anything shown on her show is Gold.
