Default Carrie (1976) (Collector's Edition)

Coming from Scream Factory! NEW 4K Scan Of The Original Negative!!

https://www.shoutfactory.com/film/fi...ctor-s-edition

Quote:
In 1976, Carrie, the “absolutely spellbinding horror movie” (Roger Ebert) directed by Brian DePalma (Scarface, The Untouchables, Dressed to Kill) and based on the best-selling Stephen King novel, premiered in theaters, forever changing the landscape of horror films, and launching much of its outstanding cast into stardom. On October 11, 2016, the SCREAM FACTORY™ home entertainment brand celebrates the 40thanniversary of the film with a 2-disc Collector’s Edition Blu-ray release which includes a brand new 4K scan of the film and nearly 3 hours of bonus material.

The first film adaptation of a Stephen King book, Carrie was a box office hit, garnering Academy Award® nominations for the up and coming star Sissy Spacek (Coal Miner’s Daughter), and film veteran Piper Laurie (The Hustler), a rare accomplishment for the horror genre at the time. Featuring the first major film roles for John Travolta, who was then starring in TV’s Welcome Back Kotter, Nancy Allen (RoboCop) and William Katt (The Greatest American Hero), Carrie was also the big screen debut for Amy Irving (Yentl),P.J. Soles (Halloween) andBetty Buckley (Eight Is Enough).

At the center of the film’s terror is Carrie (Spacek), a high school loner with no confidence, no friends... and no idea about the extent of her secret powers of telekinesis. But when her psychotic mother and sadistic classmates finally go too far, the once-shy teen becomes an unrestrained, vengeance-seeking powerhouse who, with the help of her 'special gift,' causes all hell to break loose in a famed cinematic frenzy of blood, fire and brimstone.

Over the last 40 years the ultimate revenge fantasy has become one of the all-time great horror classics, and Carrie is now, finally, offered as a definitive, two-disc Collector’s Edition Blu-ray.

Special features:

NEW 4K Scan Of The Original Negative

[Show spoiler]With De Palma's retrospectives all around and De Palma doc in theaters, it's seems just about time to drop this bit of news.

I've asked Nancy Allen about the possibility of a special Blu-ray edition of Carrie on her official FB account and here's what she said:

Note: Since the October announcements are right around the corner, I've decided to blot out the name of the label, you know, out of courtesy.

I'm hoping Criterion then. They've been kicking out a couple of MGM titles with new 4K scans lately.

At this point with Scream doing new transfers I guess it doesn't really matter that much if it's Criterion, Arrow or Scream. If it's Scream there might be small compression errors, if it's Criterion it might be slightly blue like Dressed to Kill, but neither is a deal-breaker for me. We'll just hope it's not VCI.

EDIT: Nevermind, it has to be scream since it was an "or" question and Criterion doesn't fit if you copy/paste it into that justification :P

Sure it matters. Scream's new transfers are mostly 2K scans from an IP, whereas Criterion seem to mostly do 2K or 4K scans from the original negative. Scanning from the negative will get more fine detail and some nicely resolved grain.

I'm hoping it's Criterion, this seems like a title they'd go all out for.

It will definitely be a new transfer, so that's a good news. This exclude Twilight Time, Kino and Olive, I'm afraid!

The original message looks to be in a slightly larger font so maybe that's why 'Criterion' copied from there doesn't fit in the reply.

I'm hoping for direct from Fox. They do better compression work than either Criterion (who did release Carrie on LD) or Shout.

Damn good news as

A). I saw this in the theater, my senior year of HS, 1976, loved it.

2). Never bought a copy before. No VHS, no DVD, no crappy BD.

Thanks OP !

I'm soooo glad I've held off on this.

One of my favorite horror flicks ever. The sequel and remake weren't too shabby either.

Count me in for Criterion as well but I wouldn't mind scream factory either. Somehow I see it being criterion though, since SF released the double feature of Carrie and Carrie 2 already.

Top 10 horror movie for me, so this is a day one purchase. I already have the bargain bin one that MGM released, but it was so cheap that I don't mind this double dip.

Why are you withholding information? Just tell us which label is releasing it so we don't have to play this lame guessing game.

Because whatever company is releasing it isn't ready to announce it yet and therefore she can't say who it is. Pretty common...

The original is probably in my top 10 or 20 horror films, it's almost perfect. The remake from a few years ago was legitimately one of the worst movies I've ever seen in terms of utter failure to command tone or convey a story. It turned it from a heartbreaking story of an outsider being mocked to her breaking point into a story about a wizard killing the mean people with her magic CGI harry potter powers. Casting one of the most blandly pretty actresses of our time as her was a stupid move, and the way they handled her mother was laughably extreme.

I'm sort of curious to see the Angela Bettis version, since "May" has her giving a similar kind of performance and that movie is also right up there with Carrie in quality. I have not heard good things, though.

Just copy it into photoshop, figure out the exact font size of her response, and type in both Criterion and Scream and see which one is justified with the other lines. :P
