hd dvd question????

Why would someone spend a grand on the new hd dvd players when they don't have alot of manufactues support(rca+toshiba), studio support,are a grand, and don't have the ability to play these supposed triple layer 45 gig discs? They have lost all advantages over blu-ray. Price.......no,studio support........no, storage space........no. I mean now that the BDA is getting their act together why would you buy an hd dvd player over a blu-ray player? Can someone answer me besides the "it's the only place to get Universal movies."???????? Blu-ray will probably have triple layer 75 gig discs before hd dvd has triple layer 45 gig discs.

The person that would purchase the Toshiba HD-XA2 for $999 is the person that wants.

1. HDMI 1.3 and 1080p output for future proofing.
2. Improved 12-bit Digital to Analog converters for video with 4x oversampling
3. Bi-directional RS-232 port for linking to a Crestron/AMX/yaddayadda controller.
4. Analog hirez multichannel out
5. Better looking casing

Who cares about mythical 45GB discs or 200GB discs. We shouold be looking at what we have now and clearly 30GB or 50GB. If the features listed above are overkill then people will be happy with the $499 HD-A2. HD DVD hasn't lost any advantages.

Storage space- 60GB per disc with DS Dual-Layer discs.

Studio Support- They don't have 7 of 8 but they have more movies and better quality movies available today. However signs point to these evening up a bit next year.

Price- While the PS3 is coming HD DVD has two options for $499 players. Xbox360 with add on and a dedicated player in the A2. Blu-Ray has one which will prove difficult to get initially.

Triple layer 75GB...come on man you guys just got BD50...don't press your luck the BDA was WAY behind in completing their spec. Where's your BD-Java movies.....oh I forgot..they don't exist yet.

HDi interactivity was ready at launch and has improved with Constantine, Troy and now Tokyo Drift.

A $1300 Panasonic Blu-Ray player doesn't even support lossless codecs like TrueHD or DTS-HD MA. Even a "lowly" $499 1st generation HD DVD player supports 5.1 TrueHD.

Fair enough, I'll get the 360 add on if things aren't looking good for blu-ray in 6 months since I already dropped a "g" on the bdp-s1. I don't think the dual side thing will catch on as I remember hating that on regular dvd. I think the bda, with the exception of samsung is taking it's time to launch because they know they have 1 shot at it to get it right to prove it's worth the money for the storage space, the studio support, and the extra features. I just hope they can. It's the BDA's game to lose.

You know what after my last post with this guy, I regret what I wrote in reply. NYG if you could please remove it, fankly getting worked up by HD fanboys AVS style the is not really worth it and I should think be for I type.

hmurchison I would take your own advise about throwing rocks in a glass house. Most these people are happy with their BD players and you are on a BD site talking down BD. BD does support those codecs plus, just need to have a firmware update if they chose to use it. They also have a 7.1 analog player.
Both sides have their advatages one more than the other but that is niether here nor there. As popularity grows on either side the prices will drop. PS2 was what $349 when it can out and now it is $150. DVD was $800 now you can pick one up for $35. Price really isn't a factor in the big scheme of things. People had the same arguments about Beta vs. VHS, DVIK vs. DVD and now HD vs. BD. Support, room to improve, use out side of movies, storage space and the porno industry are always the key factor.

Hd-dvd is a waste of space just like beta no large storage space
