A question about playing new Blu-rays - Blu-ray Forum

I have one question. I have the 80gb PS3 and only have firmware 1.94. I was wondering will new releases such as The Resident Evil trilogy and Saw IV work with this firmware or will I have to update. I ask this because I can not update at the time and I want to get some new Blu-rays. Thanks for the help.

The answer in a nutshell, yes, It may not fully support PiP with that release, but everything will still work fine.

I think you can ask Sony to send you a disk with firmware 2.10 or the 2.10 should be on recent PS3 games (UT3 and else)

Rather than starting a new thread for my teeny question, I thought it best to piggyback a similarly named thread

My question is, what is the "Blu-ray Data" folder for on the PS3? I never see any data in it, does it only get used while I'm watching Blu-ray movies, or how does it work exactly? Is it just a placeholder for something in the future?

You don't see any data in it because Sony doesn't want you screwing around with it

I'm not 100% sure but my guess is it contains the profile, firmware, buffer and such it takes to play a blu disc.

better call Sony to ask for the CD and the time it will take, you have an option for the update called "update from disk" on the PS3 system menu
