Default Toshiba Says Buyers Aren't Returning HD DVD Players for Blu-Ray

Not sure if this should be in the general forums so posted here, but found this interesting from Toshiba

Quote:
While industry support for HD DVD has shrunk, sales of the players remain ``robust,'' said Jodi Sally, vice president of marketing for Toshiba America.

``I've heard of no return issues at all regarding this,'' Sally said yesterday in an interview with Bloomberg Radio from the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
Now to me it could also mean that people are not having problems returning them, or am I being well ..........

Well I'll be the first one to call bullshit on this. I was at two best buy's yesterday and folks at both of them told me people were returning HD-DVD players because of all the defections. Of course I asked if they were buying blu and the response was some were and some werent. I guess some new blu customers are better than none.

Its a bad sign for Toshiba when they have to release a statement every hour.

robust could be taken several ways, its not like everyone knows about warner switching and uni and para ready to switch. im sure they're still selling plenty of movies and players. and until a retailer drops them..they'll continue to be bought because average joe consumer doesn't keep up with news like we do. heck..a lot of people don't even know about this whole war.

as for the returns tho..I don't believe that. the robust comment is certainly to spin the return issue im sure they're having right now

It's a bad sign when the battle lines move this far in the opposition's favor. She's effectively announcing that yes, Toshiba has stopped beating its wife.

Could you imagine if she was the press agent for the titanic?

Hour
1) I know that you have heard the rumors of several large icebergs ahead. But dont worry, we havent hit one yet.

2) I know you heard the rumors of us hitting an iceberg, but these are just rumors, and we havent sunk yet.

3) Okay, so we hit a big iceberg. We have now cancelled our meeting that was meant to showcase our Iceberg avoidance plans. The boat isnt sinking

4) I know you see all that water... but dont worry, the ship isnt sinking.

5) This is the only company that put the interests of the consumer before the interests of the people who keep the boat afloat. The boat is not sinking

6) I would just like to remind everyone that the boat isnt sinking yet.

7) I havent heard of any issues with people getting on lifeboats. BTW, Boat = Not sinking.

Yeah, just keep your head buried in the sand.

Most HD DVD players are probably headed to ebay.

The only reason they are not returning the players is becasue they can't return all the movies they bought for it.

So sorry!

Well if you bought 50 odd movies with your $99 player, you are bound to keep them.

Plenty of people probably don't know about the WB situation unless they happened to catch it on the news.
I've yet to see mention of it on tv. I don't watch the news often though as I find it to be depressing. Sports, weather, and tragedy.

Working at a Best Buy service center you sometimes get Store Stock units in that have no problems (No Fault Found is what we call em, or NFF). Well, that typically happens when a customer within 30 days of buying something they decide they don't won't it for whatever reason, return it and come up with some B.S. reason why they don't want it: "Doesn't play discs, skips, etc..."

Well since end of Dec. we have been getting a HUGE amount of HD-A30s in, all store stock and NFF ... which is telling me people are returning them ... and we are just one Service Center (we mainly deal entire east coast from NC to FL and as far west as KY) and I'm not sure how many centers Best Buy has, but I'm guessing its 10 or more.

If anyone can point me of a place where I can return my 1 year player, then please let me know. I'll be first in line to do so...plus I'll GIVE them $50 for the trouble.
