Default Toshiba 3 free HDDVD offer!

http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/sh...ayer_Sold_/326

apparently toshiba decided to offer 3 HDDVD's with every HDDVD player purchased starting november 1, 06.

Manufacturers did tons of this with DVD in 99' & 2000, I think it helped DVD take off, it's what eventually sucked me in, that and the prices falling to $399

I'd be willing to bet many if not all BD manufacturers will counter with offers of their own, Panasonic has already done this.

Somewhere
Thumbs down

Toshiba s efforts are barren. With already 3 Blu-Ray players from Samsung, Panasonic and Philips available, and 3 more (SONY, Pioneer and Sharp) near release they will fade like smoke in the air...

Before long, Toshiba's stockholders (God help them) are simply going to have enough of this.

As is: This is a step or two away from bringing out a wheelbarrow and giving this stuff away.

Clearly desperate tactics.

I thought HD-DVD's price advantage and the eventual "Chinese players" and selling all this stuff "cheaper than Blu-Ray" at hot electronics stores like Wal-Mart () would have Joe Six Pack carry HD-DVD to the quick finish line?

(No, I can't even write that crap sarcastically without feeling a little stupid.)

Make it an RCA model....priced at 99.99 ...and all the glitches every single hd dvd player has might be worth the 25.00 net cost

Actually it was the Sony7000 es sd dvd player which first offered 4 free movies in 97......and this was one of the very first players out...and it functioned perfectly.

Last edited by GTP; 10-27-2006 at 03:35 PM. Reason: price adjustment

That's about right.

Night and day difference.

It probably helped that the Sony player was actually a real home theater product, and not some amalgm of old, cheap laptop parts from Intel's refuse pile from circa 2002/2003 trying to masquerade as a home theater product, like what Toshiba is trying to peddle off now and sadly, for the foreseeable future.

If toshiba's 2nd gen players come out and perform like the 1st gen...it's over for them. There is no way they can A) get mainstream adoption of slow clunky unresponsive players & B) survive on their own in this.
