Default Coming 2008: Little Mermaid 3: Ariel's Beginning ?

Being a Little Mermaid fan, I was slightly excited when this was announced in 2006. The second film was horrible and the animation was not very good. Disney's new management really bumped up the quality for Cinderella 3. I recomend that for Disney hand-drawn fans. It is good.

The rumour for this plot is about Ariel's mother, Athena and whatever happened to her to make King Triton hate the humans. Well, turns out the rumour was false. The confirmed plot is horrible: Ariel brings music to Atlantica. I hope the film's plot is mildly interesting.

I post this because the long awaited trailer has just been released. See for yourself: http://video.homemediamagazine.com/?...d20&rf=sitemap

I think the original 'Little Mermaid' (Disney's) is a brilliant film - one of my favourites - but I am not a fan atall of the made-for-video sequels (I'm including the 'sequels' to other Disney classics as well). Some are watchable at best, but most are dire!

However, the kids love 'em. And that's what makes them big sellers on home video. I think Disney have some of these sequels lined up for Blu-ray release and it will be interesting to see how they sell as they are targetting the family market. If they sell well it would be a sign that Blu-ray is hitting the mainstream market.

This title is not announced for Blu. I wonder if it will. Disney seems to only release BD versions of big hit films. I'm still hoping for a chance to see good ol' hand drawn animation in HD. I haven't seen any yet. Are those Marvel ones good?

Oh, and yes I agree that those Disney sequels have all been very bad in all aspects (animation, plot, music, etc.). I've talked to a Disney employee a while ago and she stated the obvious, "They are released purely for revenue. The target audience are children without a good understanding of what makes a 'good' film as long as they see familiar characters."

Has anyone see Cinderella III? That one is good and is the only title so far under that new Disney manager (forget his name). Little Mermaid 3 is suppose to be the last 'sequel' from any of the classics.

Oh, when do you guys think TLM will get a Blu release? By the next time it gets re-released from the vault? I guess that would be in 2013. That's a long time away.

lol I guess the Disney sequels are getting as bad as Rocky. I am waiting on Bambi 3, and Cars 2, we all know its bound to happen

I hope the next installment of bamby is better than the second one which was horrible and that includes Little Mermaid 2, Cinderella 2, Mulan 2, Fantasia 2000(excluding the mother nature segment). I however did like Cinderella 3 which was a worthy sequel.

Default I have Cinderella III...

... but haven't had a chance to watch it yet. I think Aladdin 3 and Lion King 2 were pretty desent but forget Aladdin 2 and Lion King 1/2. However, if any of them were released in Blu I'd get them just because I like to have the entire set or sries of something I buy, that and I'm a big Disney fanboy.

Actually, What's-His-Name shut them ALL down, and the head of the Toon Studios resigned shortly after--
All that escaped destruction were Cindy 3, Mermaid 3, one volume of "Enchanted Tales", and the Tinkerbell Movie.

(And the reason Cindy was better was that the source material came in from another medium, ie. the cruise-ship stage shows, and wasn't subject to the same self-cannibalizing assembly-line, DVD cross-marketing, and/or TV pilots that the video sequels were.)

I thought they said they weren't making any more direct to video sequels. So I guess some are still going to make it through. They must be selling or they wouldn't do it.

I'll get the original Disney films for my daughter.

All of these direct to video sequels are getting out of hand.

OR, they were already in production when the hammer came down, and were the proverbial Ones That Got Away.
Waste no uncompleted footage, want none.

I hadn't heard this, but hope that it's true. Of all the sequels they've made (and I've bothered to see) only 3 have been decent and only 1 of those 3 was direct to video.

Return of Jafar (by far the best direct to video sequel IMO)

Rescuers down Under and Return to Neverland (decent theatriclally released sequels - Rescuers much more so than Neverland)

EDIT - I don't consider Toy Story 2 a Disney movie.

New promotional artwork for the film. I'm really impressed with the quality. I really like John Lasser's higher bar of quality.

Do you guys think it will get a blu release? It hasn't been announced at all but I have my fingers crossed. The animation would look great in HD.

p.s. On the subject of Disney, did you guys know that starting with Aladdin, the hand drawn films were made on a digital system? That means those transfers will be digital to digital when it comes to blu. Yay!
