(And the reason Cindy was better was that the source material came in from another medium, ie. the cruise-ship stage shows, and wasn't subject to the same self-cannibalizing assembly-line, DVD cross-marketing, and/or TV pilots that the video sequels were.)
I thought they said they weren't making any more direct to video sequels. So I guess some are still going to make it through. They must be selling or they wouldn't do it.

I'll get the original Disney films for my daughter.

All of these direct to video sequels are getting out of hand.

exciting...... though I prefer if they release the original one. Also to be released is Peter Pan 3 (Tinker Bell)

OR, they were already in production when the hammer came down, and were the proverbial Ones That Got Away.
Waste no uncompleted footage, want none.

I think that was the case as well. Cindy 3 was already midway in production and I assume Little Mermaid 3 was just starting on production.

I hate most of the Disney sequels except Toy story 2. All the new sequels are crappy movies with really nothing good about them. They just want more money! I wish they only made sequels if the movie really needed one and they had a good plot. They are just dragging great classics threw the dirt.

Enchanted Tales Vol. 1 was already in post and scheduled when the berlin-wall fell on the studios, and was announced as the last volume--
You can see a preview on the disk for "the next exciting Vol. 2, coming soon!" (Belle rescues a lost Chip!), and snicker with mean-spirited glee.

I hadn't heard this, but hope that it's true. Of all the sequels they've made (and I've bothered to see) only 3 have been decent and only 1 of those 3 was direct to video.

Return of Jafar (by far the best direct to video sequel IMO)

Rescuers down Under and Return to Neverland (decent theatriclally released sequels - Rescuers much more so than Neverland)

EDIT - I don't consider Toy Story 2 a Disney movie.

Aladdin and the King of theives is the best sequel in my opinon (better than Return of Jafar). This is my favorite Disney movie in my collection (not including Pixar's or the original Aladdin). Aladdin is also my favorite TV series based on a Disney movie. That series had the same humor and tone as the movie and it's sequels, and Dan Castanella (returning from Return of Jafar) does a great job of portraying Genie for Robin Williams.

I'm out of the loop in terms of most recent animation (with the obvious exceptions of Cars, Ratatouille and a few others). I didn't know that so many sequels were being made. What a shame. There are so many great traditional folk and fairy tales out there that have never seen the light of film. Likewise there are many Russian fairy tales which have been made into films, but could be remade with more modern technology. I guess what I'm saying is that there is a vast treasury of stories that could be put to film without resorting to making contrived sequels.

Corpse Bride is one example of a recent adaptation of a traditional folk tale to film. I mean, it can be done!

Mmm I doubt it. Disney is reluctant when it comes to these type of titles. I mean I could be wrong, but I don't see it being released on Blu the same time as DVD. They've been promoting this movie for about a year now and there's been no mention of Blu-ray anywhere.

I agree, however this is suppose to be the last disney direct to video sequel release. The thing with all these sequels is that Disney is a very greedy corporation and it knows that most of the classic Disney characters have become a franchise. Children get their parents to buy the products regardless of quality.

Since Disney went under new management, the remaining three 'sequels' have seen a much higher quality in production.

A sneak peak of the film has just been released today:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrZIhpzNsQQ

The animation is excellent and they used the character model sheets. We get to see Ariel's mother and what happened to her in this clip.

I can't stress how happy I am with the animation. It looks even better than the original in some ways. It doesn't have quite the same feeling of the first but seems to be great in its own way. What do you guys think?

Compared to Disney's other shitty sequels, this one (and Cind 3) seem like gold.

Jodi Benson returns as Ariel but Triton is voiced by someone else. It would have been great to have the original Triton but for whatever reason he could not return.

Has not been announced on blu yet, and with how close it is to release I have to believe that if it was coming out on blu it would be known by now.
More studio stupidity.
