Default Help Convince my Dad

Guys i need your help...Now if you have seen my other thread i almost got a blu-ray player which is true. I was going to put in 200 and my dad was going to put in 200 and we would get a blu ray player. But he backed out saying it was "unneeded to get a 400$ dvd player....." Now he isnt that a tech guy, but if you have seen my other post in the general discussion under the topic "DVD is not Blu Ray" or something along those lines. But anyways in just a quick summary of the post, i tell my dad we should get something, he says no, someone else says you should get it, he gets it and loves it....every single time.

So i know once we get a blu-ray player he is going to love it and never regret the jump. But i am running out of things to say to him on trying to convince him. So i need your help to tell me your experiences why blu-ray kicks dvds ass and why he should make the jump. I will show him this (minus everything i write) and hopefully he will jump.

Now before i get comments on "Why don't you just get a job..." Well i would love to get a job, but the sad part is my schedule is packed already (School, football lifting) until around 6:30-7 at night. So it would be really hard for me to get a job around my schedule.... so please guys, help me out........

Tell him you should get a PS3 for $399. Then it's not just a DVD player, but a Blu-ray player AND a game console AND a WebTV device AND a media hub. It's a freaking electronic joy-gasm.

I think you offering to split the cost is a great incentive. Remind him most sons just want want want, and you're actually offering to give towards something you believe in.

The remind him that REAL MEN don't back out on their word, which he did, and if he doesn't do this you'll go Terry Tate on his ass (Google it) for being a punk.

Ask him if to lend you the US$200 and you'll pay it off by Christmas. Then you get a PS3 and just let the HD beauty sink in on him. Nothing like first hand demo.

By Christmas, if the BD collection has piled up you could tell him that he should LISTEN to your opinions some of the time, then plunk the US$200 in front of him. Of course, if you pay him back he's not going to get a Christmas present.

1 Blu-ray is not DVD. Therefore a Blu-ray player is not a DVD player.

2 Blu-ray is 1080p hi-def, whereas DVD and cable is 480 i/p standard def.

3 Blu-ray movies have 6 times the resolution of a DVD player and look gorgeous.

4 People have to move with the times. Check out various good things about Blu-ray. If you get NY Times, check out todays Business paper and you will see where things are going.

5 People are not buying that many DVDs nowadays. There is less demand for a DVD because everyone wants the best. Now if you are worried about the cost of a Blu-ray movie, then don't. Being an early adopter would give you an oppurtunity to get free movies which we are enjoying. 60% of my BD collection is free/nearly free as I would say.

6 Home theatres need something more than a DVD, give them a BD player and be amazed. If you have small kids, Disney is BD exclusive.

Other studios that follow BD are

Fox
Warner Bros.
Lionsgate
New Line
Disney/Beuena Vista
Columbia/Sony
National Geographic
HBO

Go for the PS3 with Spider Man free in it, that way you get a bonus. But first, get him to a Best Buy or Circuit City and let him see the movies or demo himself. Seeing is the best way!

Seeing is believing.
It seems like most BlockBusters are putting up nice displays consisting of a PS3 hooked up to a Bravia.

If you wait a few months I think Funai is coming out with a bluray for under 300 under the sylvania brand.

Although I had dreamed of participating in the sport since I was a wee lad, my school didn't offer "football lifting". Consider yourself lucky to go to such a progressive institution. Are you on the varsity football lifting team?

Ok... I'm done.

Enjoy your PS3! I hear that Electronic Arts has Madden NFL Football Lifting '09 in development. (Hmm... I guess I wasn't quite done.)
