Default How I convince customers

Besides being a student I have a job at a Hi-Fi dealer.

Of course I'm biased against Blu-ray I found a way to describe the war to the customers, and they seem to understand it quite good. I hope it doesn't sound to silly but I still think that it is objective.

You have to see the war, as if there where 2 different cars. Car number 1 is bigger (storage) and it can drive faster (bit-rate) than car number 2. Car number 1 is also produced by many different producers (SONY, Panasonic...) compared to car number 2 (only Toshiba) and therefore it comes in different editions and designs.

There is also a big difference in where the cars can be used. 63% (5/8) of the country is only for car number 1. 25% (2/8) of the country is neutral. In 13% (1/8) of the country, only Car number 2 can be used.

In the end of the conversation I ask the costumer "which car would you pick"? Some costumers come in thinking red but they walk out thinking blue

HD-DVD car You can clearly see the capacity problems

Default Good analogy

Now ask yourself would you rather pay $300 for the red car or $600 for the blue car?

Wrong! The red car looks much nicer... it comes with a $100 rebate and 5 free engines.

Awesome! That is a great analogy, and I would use it myself, if I was still selling BD players.

And be required to pay $4.00 a gallon of gas whenever you fill the red car up versus $3.00 a gallon for the blue car.

That's exectly the question people need to ask them self. A LOT and I mean A LOT of costumers think that something is cheap, just because the price is low and that's far from true. Cheap is measured by what you get for your money, not the price it self.

By the way, I haven't sold any HD-DVD players yet, I simply can't get my self to sell a player, when it lacks the support of so many studios. I think a lot of costumers get cheated because the salesperson doesn't tell them the whole story

I believe that the electoral map up a few posts is a little out of date, in terms of the numbers per state. Nonetheless, it is amusing.

What would happen to the map if Warner or Paramount went Blu-Ray exclusive? It seems that a lot of the trailers I've seen on TV are coming from either Paramount, Warner, or Universal.
