My previous helped me decide the receiver now I need the communities knowledge in picking a speaker for the receiver.
My Choices are http://www.us.onkyo.com/model.cfm?m=...ss=Speaker&p=i and http://www.us.onkyo.com/model.cfm?m=...ss=Speaker&p=i If anyone has other recommendations please post the name and why it would be a better set. Thanks for any help. |

Unless you're a true audiophile with some great ears, both seem like good choices... Onkyo is really known more for their top-notch receivers and other a/v hardware, not really their speakers. while they are not bad speakers, as you can see I have a cheaper version of an Onkyo HTIB, I would look at other options. Let me know what you're budget looks like as there are a lot better options for speakers out there...

Judging by your excellent choice in receiver, i'm gonna guess you're looking for some great sound- if you are look no further than Definitive Technology Speakers. I've had a subscription to Home Theatre magazine for years and everytime they review a Def Tech product, they crap all over themselves. they consistently say that for the price, they simply cannot be beat. if that doesn't convince you, well, my dad has a sweet Def Tech setup that I never get tired of hearing. He has a Denon 2808 receiver powering 2 Studio Monitor 350's for the fronts, 2 BP1.2x Bipolar surrounds, a SuperCube 2 for subwoofer, and a CLR 2300 for his center channel. i recently suggested a similar setup for a buddy of mine building a home theatre in his living room and chose the same setup, substituting a downgrade in center channel and subwoofer, but still Def Tech, and he absolutely loves it!!!!!!! It sounds fantastic!!!! You will not be disapointed with these speakers

I cant say that a particular brand of speakers matches best with the Onkyo, but I do carry Integra, who is Onkyos High End line and we match everyone from James loudspeakers to Niles and Speakercraft. When it comes down to it, I would say you need to go listen to some brands your self. You may be a New England style fan like Polk, Boston Accoustics, Sapphire to and extent, or Snell. Anyways, If Onkyo sounds anything like a Integra and it should in terms of tonal quality, you should be happy with any of those brands, plus really sensitive speakers like Klipsh. I personally am not a fan of Omni -polar speakers so I would not recommend brands like Def Tec, Mirage or Bose, but with that said you make like the softer audio. We are all different.

If you buy them as a set you're usually gonna get a better deal, but it still sounds like it's gonna be more spendy than you're looking for. I just called my dad and this is what he paid for his setup 2 years ago:
fronts: pair $500 center: 650 surrounds: pair $300 sub: $1200 Crazy right? Well not if you hear it, worth every penny. A hypocrit I know I am cause I couldn't even afford the receiver you bought, but trust me... Def Tech also makes a HTIB that ranges from about $600-$1000. Still gonna be great sound- here's the link to this system. http://www.definitivetech.com/loudsp...romonitor.html |
