Hey guys, i've been building my first HT system this summer.
Through a combination of great deals and craigslist here's what i've come up with: Harman/Kardon AVR-325 (paid 95) 2 Boston Acoustics HS-450 for L/R (paid 80 for the pair ![]() 2 Boston Acoustics HS-40 for Surrounds (paid 50 for the pair) Boston Acoustics HPS-10se Subwoofer (paid 85) which totals around 300, i think this is about the best setup i could've gotten for 300 (at least i hope so because of all the work i did running around to get it all) I haven't set any of it up, but i will next week when i move into my new house. The main reason I'm posting here is that I'm curious what you guys think of that receiver paired with those speakers, i hooked up the 450's and the sub and they sounded pretty good i think but i'm no audiophile (yet). I'm pretty sure that was a fairly good receiver at the time it was released but all of the reviews for it are 6 years old so i'm not too sure how it stands in the current market. I haven't bought a center channel yet but i may buy the Boston HS-225 from my local sears for 95 dollars. Is it that important that I match my center channel to the rest of my setup or could i go for something cheaper. I also have 2 Sony SSB1000 Bookshelfs laying around, I could hook them up to make the system 7.1, or just use one of them as my center. Thoughts? Here are the receiver specs: http://reviews.cnet.com/av-receivers...tag=mncol;rnav |

I bet the Bostons will sound great paired with the HK.
Yes, it is very important (for HT or multichannel audio) to match the center. This will give you a way better front sound stage (it will flow from speaker to speaker better). I wouldn't slack on the center channel because most of your dialog goes through the center and you want it to sound a clear as possible. If you do use the other speakers for 7.1 I would use them as the rear surrounds. Be sure to keep us updated in the BA thread and post some pics! ![]() |
