Bose is good if you need to have small speakers. If not, there's better for cheaper.

You can get a lot better for the same/less price.

You couldn't just keep this in one thread??

Compact yes. But overpriced and greatly inferior to other products in the same price range.

Actually . . . I offered him more information than what he asked for . . . you offered him information based on your system, which, while it may be good enough for you, does not take advantage of Blu-ray's capabilities.

Then you, for whatever reason, came back with this

Does this cause you some personal grief that there might be another BOSE thread in the universe? Are you the official thread NAZI?

Sweet reply to a post that's more than a year old where you have no frame of reference.

If you must know, this thread was created by the OP as he was discussing the same topic at the same time in another thread. Hence, it was pretty unnecessary to start a brand new one.

I dislike Bose because you can get a hell of a lot more bang for your buck going with almost any other speaker. The one that comes to mind is Paradigm there Canadian developed, and offer probably one of the best price to performance ratios ever apperently. I have never heard them but when I upgrade it will probably be to Paradigm Studio line.

It all depends on for what they are used for - I have heard their headphones and car audio speakers are quite nice - For home their is much worse, but like everyone else says, you can find much better for the same price. Personally I think they are a mid quality speaker at a high end price. Oh, their subwoofers suck though!

They are the lowest quality high end speakers. There are soooooo many better ones out there. Go to any place such as Tweeter or ABT and they will all say Bose is the worst quality speakers they carry.

A Best Buy or Circuit City might not have anything better than Bose (Unless the Best Buy has a Magnolia Center)

It's kind of like LCDs. For many people LCDs are awesome and good enough but no LCD can even compare to a Pioneer Elite Plasma.

How many speaker companys do you see have tv commercials? 1

They are just way over priced computer speakers.

The bang for the buck factor is amazingly low on Bose, and most of their components are the cheapest you can buy, and then they use processing to trick your ears

You're far better off spending the same money on quality components

I don't hate them, but they are very overpriced for what they are. Also, I dislike how they have driven the "smaller" trend amongst mainstream audio; it's a fact that noise is made by moving air, and tiny little diaphrams just can't move enough to accurately reproduce the full range of sound.

That said, they do a good job of making the sound stage (where the sound seems to be "coming from") much larger than you would expect for little speakers, so if you want a pleasant "noise from everywhere" effect with soft. non-challengin music they are great (if a bit pricey). My dad loves his for that exact reason.

Otoh, I would never recommend them for home theater to anyone (unless WAF is the most important consideration) because the soundstage is so diffuse that it does a horrible job in surround-sound setups, where you want to have precise localization of the sound. I have to admit that as someone who really loves theater sound it pains me every time they advertise their 3-2-1 system as giving you all the surround sound without the extra speakers. It's probably better than the on-set 2.0 setup of tv speakers, but it can't hold a candle to even a cheap 5.1 surround system for movie watching.
